Electricity

For centuries, lightningscales have created beautiful electrical storms in the Stormy Peaks. In early 924 OA, Electro Mage Dashier Mallor used his staff to twist the lightning on the Stormy Peaks to his will. With little effort, he trapped the lightning within a bottle and began to study it until he found a way to harness its energy and make a profit out of it.

I have no idea how it's done. Father tells me that the electric ziplines still run smoothly. Without them, we wouldn't be able to leave the city for forage for food. It amazes me how such a feeble thing can still run after years of neglect. The inventor of such a thing has truly outdone himself.   But I shouldn't be surprised. Our house still gets electricity. The lamp lights still glow every evening, despite Father telling us to conserve power. I certainly can't live without light so long as I write in my journal or cook dinner.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Electricity has been used for hundreds of years in Hellisfjoror, helping to light homes in the dark with lamp lights or to be able to cook elaborate and exotic foods. Other powerful methods involve using magick if one is an Electro Mage. When the dead started to rise, many citizens within Hellisfjoror needed a way to get around without the trouble of fighting the dead. Tactical use of the army was deployed and sent to the Lightning in a Bottle facility, where the current owner was instructed to invent something useful for people. Thus, electric ziplines were designed, allowing safe passage to and from one zone to another.

Industrial Use

To harness electricity, one must understand how it works. A single lightning strike has enough energy to power a lamp light for three years. However, one would need to harness over 1,000,000 lightning strikes each day to equal the electricity produced at the Lightning in a Bottle facility.

Storage

Once the lightning has been contained, it is processed via an Electromagnetic Containment Box. This box processes the lightning within a split second, passing it off into a complex system where it is transformed into heat and light that can be stored into various objects, such as the lamp light.   Dashier is responsible for designing such a box and passing down the technological skills to be able to take care of the device. In the past three hundred years, the box has only gone down a handful of times.

Hazards

Lightning is dangerous for anyone to handle. Even an experienced Electro Mage fears the power that lightning emits. Such power must be under one's control at all times. If a single bolt of lightning goes awry, someone might just get killed.

Bottled Lightning

Lightning has never been easy to tame. Yet, Dashier Mallor wanted to prove it could be done. Within a few years of studying lightning, he produced a glass bottle enchanted to be unbreakable when lightning touched it. Dashier went to the Stormy Peaks and proceeded to stir up the dragons' rage, enticing them to create their storms so that he could attempt a feat no other could. Hours turned into days before Dashier was able to swirl the lightning into a controlled form and pushed into the bottle.

Dashier went on to create his startup company, Lightning in a Bottle, where the bottled lightning would be put on display as proof of his talents. The bottle is under heavy guard year around, no matter the circumstances; this precious item must always come first.
