Tranquility Athenaeum

For centuries, the Tranquility Athenaeum was a library for those with a thirst for knowledge. On the outside, it was a building full of books, scrolls, and centuries of history. For the librarians, the place was a home filled with knowledge, which they deemed the world's greatest weapon.

Purpose / Function

The library was mainly used for research and studies through a large collection of books. But a secret about the place was the underground tunnels that sifted through Kvia and lead to all the important buildings in the capital. Whenever the Jarl or a Karl needed private information too dangerous for the public to know about, a converted librarian would run the information to him through the tunnels.   Once the apocalypse began, the librarians were tasked with something new and much more exciting. They would start gathering information via the people around the local area; whatever the Black Rain was doing to the area would be relayed back to Jarl Ubbein Skidisson.

Architecture

by Amelia Nite (Stable Diffusion)
The building is modeled after early Hellisfjoror architecture. It mimics the Nordic style of the Vikings while adding a modern touch to the building with all the collections of books and records of knowledge passed down over the centuries. Tall, archway windows are scattered throughout the building, which stands three stories high. Rows upon rows of bookcases can be seen at every angle of the building, which can easily be accessed by staircases or the sliding ladders available by attachment to the wall.

History

The library has been a place for all up until the apocalypse when people had to start fending for themselves. They quickly started to see the place as a waste of space and the place was boarded up. The librarians who stayed used the tunnels as a way to travel for food and other supplies. For the last decade, nobody really knows if the place still functions or if it is a rundown, decrepit building.
