5. Of Mice, Men, and Carnivorous Trees
Downtime Setup
- Artie asks Marco to come visit him without explaining what for. When Marco gets to his house, Artie asks about the visitor in his dreams (she calls herself Daisy, changes forms frequently but always wears really pretty dresses). Daisy was the one who possessed him last winter, but she says that was a mistake and she's very sorry about it. She offered him an item that could fix it, but Artie knows better. Instead, Daisy has been coming into his dreams once a week and doing something that's kept his brain from getting taken over. He hasn't been so relaxed in a long time. Artie wants to believe that she's not a bad person and doesn't want to hurt anyone, but he's still on the fence. He does feel like she's been alone for a long long time and she's lonely but doesn't know how to interact with people anymore.
- Alford Chesterton saw Latrans at Twilight and then again at a fancy party while he was gathering this information. There are very few single men in Rockport who are the same class as Alford's family and he and his wife, Melba, thinks Latrans might be the perfect husband for his precious daughter, Flora or, if Latrans prefers, his equally precious son, Wentworth. Latrans was asking a lot about marriage and married couples, so perhaps he's looking for a partner? And would he like to take one of his children out on a date? (both of them really want to just go out and have some fun, not necessarily get married)
- Brilies says that (if the party hasn't offended Isulli too much), the drow has given them a great deal where they'll loan Rockport some of their high level wizards to quickly build a lot of housing in exchange for taking some residents that the drow don't want in their city. They'll have enough housing for all of their residents and the new ones in about a week.
- The city guard has started investigating the dragon-egg scandal and the theft of the fish. Adriel Orina was cleared of association with the smuggling, but it turns out that she was complicit in taking more fish than she was owed. She has been sentenced to a few months of community service for the Fisherman's Guild, working for them for free.
- Brynn has been capitalizing on the Orina thing and making sure everyone knows that Nisa's been living in Orina's house this whole time. Popular opinion is against Nisa and there's a rumor going around that Nisalisse is conspiring with the drow to steal children.
- Nisalisse was forced to make a public statement that she didn't know anything about Orina's plans and wouldn't have approved of it. She's also been defending Adriel against similar accusations. Finally, she's been spreading criticism of the party allowing the dragons to take the people away to kill them. She's saying that Brilies should punish the party, though when asked, she can't really specify for what. She's also started saying that the reason Brilies isn't concerned about the party letting people die is because she is a criminal herself. How can the town trust her to keep people safe when she doesn't take crime seriously?
- Adriel Orina file a complaint against the party for breach of contract in civil side; that will require mediation at some point.
- Garron Chao has announced that he has partnered with Phancis Cambon to create security systems. Phancis had previously gotten funding from the Merchant's Guild leader to start a security/monitoring company and had just started hiring private security people. Garron is now on board to create security gadgets and the rich people in town are super excited about it. The lower classes are mildly interested but figure they won't be able to afford it once it comes out. They're not ready to launch yet, but the party can easily see that Garron's not making things in the same place he was using for the Kidsaver.
Plot points/Scenes
The Kids will come in first and we'll do that first, then the next day the party will wake up to some more people waiting for them.
Requester | Urgency (subjective) | Description | Reward |
---|---|---|---|
The Kids | Imperative | One of the Berners went out hunting and didn't come back and so some of the other adults went looking for them and the kids followed them and they went in a place with a bunch of hedges and it closed behind them and they're definitely in trouble and you have to help them right now! | The kids won't hate you |
Gio | High, I guess | The Forge took that screaming sentient doll of Rockport's hands when it started screaming. The researchers tried talking to it, but it didn't respond. They did figure out that it's screaming in a dead language called Voidspeak, but no one knows how to translate it. They wanted Gio to find a translator, but then the doll abruptly stopped screaming. It's been kept in a comfortable box/room since then but NOW it's started screaming again. Gio's heard that the party has a big library here and maybe they would have a book to translate what he says. Frankly he's at a loss and just really wants to get the researchers off his back. (Vyzzyg is also very interested in this) | I dunno, you want a custom magic item or something? You want to research something? You tell me; I'm not your mom. |
Anonymous Note | Low | Kalatar found a note shoved under the door this morning when he came in. One side of the card has a red symbol on it. The other side says that the party has been invited to discuss a job perfect for their specialized skills. If they would like to meet, they are to put this card, symbol out, in the window and someone will meet them the next day. | None specified right now |
Bob the Symbiote | Low | Bob has been having trouble integrating into the town. He hasn't quite got the hang of it. But the party seems like they're very popular around here and have their shit together. Would they mind giving him a few lessons on how to be a person? | If you ever need an undersea guide, I can do that. Otherwise, I'm not sure what I can give you. |
