Lucian was part of the Noble Future, a group of nobles hand picked by the then heads of the eight houses, and was provided the best education that the Dostilian Academy. Being one of the star pupils in the academy, he took a major interest in military and tactics. Considered a talented strategist among Southern Nobility, he owes his talent not only to his years at the academy, but also his teachings from his father, Jarvas RoyLyon, who taught Lucian ancient RoyLyon tactics that have been passed down to each of the new generation.
While Lucian's mind is keen and formidable, none compares to his training with a sword. The RoyLyon house is well known for their way with steel, and Lucian is by far the best swordsman currently alive. In his early ages, he became a formidable prodigy, only rivaled by his younger brother, Seiford RoyLyon.

Seiford brought disgrace to the family by stealing from noble merchants. Lucian covered up the act by paying the merchants off but was furious with Seiford and exiled him from his family. Outraged, Seiford challenged Lucian to a duel. By RoyLyon tradition, if Seiford wins the duel, then he would be able to stay, but if Lucian won, then Seiford would be exiled for life. Seiford inevitably lost, but not without giving Lucian a nasty gash in his forearm. Seiford was made to be exiled, and he always held that against Lucian, and Lucian has always held respect for Seiford as he was one of the only swordsman that could harm him. He hides his gash from others and only a select few know about the scar.
