Drom's Story
Drom was born in the free city of
Suzerain 30 years before the dawn of the Common Age. Raised in the city of his birth, at the age of 15, Drom heard the calling of the goddess Marha and he became a devotee of the Bright Mother. He joined the church and dedicated his life to the faith and working to advance it throughout the world.
When he completed his apprenticeship in Suzerain, Drom travelled north to the
Tasser Dale. He spent a couple years amongst the elves learning the nuances of how each practiced their shared faith. Eventually, he left that land to travel even further north and came to the kingdom of
Eldessar and its capital city,
Eldesrand.
There he continued his learning and, by the time the Hordes came, he was a full cleric of the goddess. Drom served as a battlefront medic during most of the Horde Wars. He was assigned to the First Army of the Eldess and saw a lot of action throughout the kingdom. He was with that force when it liberated the capital city near the end of the Wars.
The rigors and horrors of war took a toll on Drom and after the fighting was done, he left the place he come to call home yet again. He headed north again then west and eventually, he came to
Everland. There he lived his life purely in the service of the city's temple to his goddess. It was a peaceful dozen years for him but they would not last. When his friend, a dwarf paladin named Hreidmar took a job with a local adventuring group, Drom followed him on its first quest and his life was again changed forever.
For nearly three years, Drom traveled the world and the cosmos with the other members of the Powers Company adventuring group. He was with them when they did amazing and wonderful things. During that time, he forged friendships that would certainly last the rest of his life. But even these dangerous and wonderful times came to an end.
Drom's travels were done after this period of his life. Even if he had not been summoned by his homeland's Church, he had resolved to return to the land of his birth and dedicate the rest of his mortal life to service of the church there. The cleric was feted with an elevation in rank to Reverent Brother when he returned to Suzerain. But his well-laid plans would again be scuttled. Drom became a fast friend of Sultan Afzal al-Tajani and he could not turn Suzerain's monarch down when he asked the priest to join his
Royal Court.
Drom continues his service to his faith but splits his devotion with his duty to the Sultan and the Suzerain.
Drom's Description and Mannerisms
Drom is well under six feet in height but he is powerfully built. Barrell-chested, he is obviously strong and stout. His armor and weapons indicate clearly that he can handle himself in a fight. But it is the fervor of his faith that is clear upon his face that makes him even more impressive.
Drom's features are those of his homeland of Suzerain. His skin is a dark copper and his eyes steel-grey. He typically keeps his jet-black hair and beard cropped short but it tends to grow out a bit when he's adventuring. A healthy amount of grey belies his nearly four-decades in age.
Drom's robes and clothes are usually white with gold trim and his armor is dyed similarly so. He carries a shield in one hand and his mace, which he's named Light Bringer is always in the other hand. Emblazoned upon the shield is the symbol of the Church of Marha: the golden disk of the sun risen above a golden shield set against a sky-blue background.
Drom is a skilled combatant and wields his mace with deadly effectiveness. Rarely does he fight at range but when he does, it’s with a hand crossbow. In times of repose, Drom tends to be quiet, preferring to listen rather than speak. When he does speak, it’s often to offer some wisdom of his goddess. Drom enjoys spending time with comrades around a dinner table despite his quiet demeanor. He doesn’t drink and his pipe is his only vice.
Drom tends to worry about how things can go bad or wrong more than most. It is because he is a worrier that he also makes a good friend. Drom is always there to "slow the roll" of those around him. Sometimes those around him view this caution as burdensome but it's not like Drom's going to change much at his current age.
