MANCHESTER

Manchester is a powder keg of politics awaiting the right spark to set off a bloody conflict between the Kindred of the City. This Anarch city strains to resist the machinations of the Camarilla, the conspiracies of the Ashirra and Kindred cults, and for all there is the fear of the purge that started in London reaching the city of revolutions.

MANCHESTER, CITY OF MORTALS

Manchester, a vibrant, multi-cultural city in the north of England famous for football and music, is a hub of industry and the arts.   With a history that dates back to the Romans, the story of Manchester is varied and turbulent; from the English Civil War to World War 2, Manchester has had its share of conflict. Its geographical location, with nearby deposits of coal and limeless water (useful for dying linen), meant the city found itself at the heart of the industrial revolution. These days it is a hub of technological development, in part due to Manchester's universities that push research forward.   Distant from the country's leaders in LONDON, Manchester also has a reputation for riots and rebellion (from the Peterloo Massacre to the Women's Suffrage movement) as well as crime (Victorian Manchester was rife with criminality, whilst Moss Side's problems led to the nickname Gunchester in the 1980's.)   Also, it rains a lot.

MANCHESTER, CITY OF KINDRED

Manchester by night has also seen plenty of conflict, in-fighting and political intrigue. The city has always had a population of Kindred, influencing its people, acquiring wealth and power, and seeking a freer existence away from the overbearing stranglehold of London.   The presence of the CULT OF MITHRAS (since the arrival of the Romans) suggests either that Mithras himself has visited the city, or that the ancient Methuselah somehow co-opted and appropriated the identity for himself.   Before the rise of the Second Inquisition, Manchester was ruled by a Council of Primogen, headed by the Prince, or Arbitrator, MOIRA DUNNE. With the advent of the Beckoning, many of the Primogen have heeded the call and so the ranks have been filled with younger Kindred of the ancillae.   Despite the nominal rule of the Camarilla, Manchester is primarily an Anarch city. Any efforts to stamp out the movement in the city have been unsuccessful, due to the organised but democratic way in which Anarch coteries collaborate with each other here under the direction of the Chairman, FORREST KLINSBERG. He is assisted in this policing by the Marshall and deputies, collectively known as the RED HANDS.   However, despite their collaboration, the Anarch coteries represent a wide range of ideologies. From the PETERLOO WARRIORS to the HORNETS, Manchester has an array of groups each with their own beliefs and manifestos.   Needless to say, the Anarch challenge to Camarilla rule keeps Moira occupied greatly. So too does she face resistance from the Tremere, fronted by HOUSE TRISMEGISTUS, who wish to continue independently pursuing their studies into angels & immortality, numerology and science.    Added to this, Moira needs to repel the Sabbat from one of their global strongholds in neighbouring Liverpool, although Forrest is willing to work alongside Moira to present a unified front in the city. The religious zealotry of the Sabbat has, however, made it easier for Moira to call upon the Anarchs for help; both she and the movement hate the indoctrination and overbearing traditions of the Sabbat.   It is not only from without, but also from within her own ranks that Moira has difficulties to face; a new radical arm of her Council has been formed by a Gangrel Primogen, the self-titled Gothi, NANCY TURNER, whose cult are convinced that chaos is sure to follow the increase in Thin-bloods.   Further to this, the Toreador Primogen, FATHER NICHOLAS VAUGHN of the Old Church of Caine, is offering solace and guidance to Kindred who once turned to the Camarilla for help. His sermons have a darker appeal though; he's hoping to convert Anarchs and Camarilla alike to an ancient faith that will lead to the building of an army of the undead.     Despite these various concerns, Moira and Manchester maintain a strong position against any threats of domination from London.
