Birthdate: Fireseek 17, 591 CY   Biography: "Brute," as he was known in his early days, was the child of a human woman named Hera, a merchant's wife. Her tale was a sad one, and she took her own life in the aftermath of a tragic assault by a savage orc raiding party led by the vicious warlord, Atulg the Black. The warband slew the guards, raped the women, and hauled the children off into the wilderness, never to be seen again. Atulg was well known as a remorseless monster of such ferocity that even his own kin feared the mention of his name. It was this creature that fathered Brute and left his mother a shell of the person she was before. After finding her way to the village of Hommlet in the wake of her terrible misfortune, the Druid of the Grove, Jaroo, took her under his care and helped to deliver her unwanted child. Not long after, Hera departed the village in the dark of night and was later found hanging from a withering deklo tree a few miles to the north. Brute grew to learn his mother's sorrowful story, and though he had no memory of her, the half-orc vowed to take vengeance on Atulg for his terrible deeds.   Jaroo continued to watch over Brute in his formative years, but in 598 CY, the old druid seemed to change. He became more distant and reclusive and his lessons became more infrequent until they finally stopped altogether. Feeling abandoned and betrayed by the only human that had ever shown him true kindness, Brute retreated from the town and lived off the land as his mentor had taught him. Unbeknownst to Brute, Jaroo had been slain by a doppelganger and replaced as a spy for the Cult of Elemental Evil that had been thriving in their second secret base to the west of Hommlet called the Temple of All-Consumption. After learning of this from Jaroo's young apprentice, Yundi, Brute was overwrought with sadness and retreated into the wilderness completely. There he remained, alone and forgotten, until he was befriended by Cén.   It was Cén who rescued Brute from a life of aimless solitude. The young druid took to calling him Húrin, which he said meant "strong heart" or "fiery spirit" in the elven tongue. He told him that a man's name must reflect what he has become and that Húrin might one day need to be changed into something greater still.   These words proved prophetic (as did many of Cén's pronouncements), as Húrin has found himself embroiled in a grand adventure focusing on the final eradication of the Cult of Elemental Evil. This is the third time that the forces of good have aligned to fight back against this relentless band of evil, and this time, the wicked organization is being led by four powerful prophets that have taken leadership over the four inner factions of Elemental Evil – air, earth, fire, and water. Húrin and Cén have together joined up with a band of heroic champions that have taken on the task of rooting out this ancient evil and vanquishing it from the world once and for all.   It was during this quest that Húrin came face-to-face with Atulg the Black, his foul progenitor, and slew him on the battlefield.
