Stellaris Constellation
The high council of the Astralan Church. Tasked with overseeing the preparation of festivals, safeguarding sacred objects, and making major decisions that affect the church as a whole. They approve charitable events and missionary excursions, as well as performing major ceremonies during the year.
Structure
Each Star in the constellation is considered equal, though they may hold different specific duties. All decisions are made by popular vote, and major changes are only pushed through if at least two thirds of the council votes in favour.
Public Agenda
The Stellaris Constellation's official purpose is to ensure the good of the church and its followers, as well as to guide lost souls to the light of Astera.
History
The council was founded by Star Roweth after a brush with death caused her to realize that she would not be able to guide the church forever. Understanding that leaving the leadership of the church to only one person without the voices of the gods to directly guide them would be foolish, she established the Stellaris Constellation, decreeing that all members were to be chosen only through signs from the gods themselves and none was to be considered greater than the other, whether through age or ability. She also established the Oracles, who had a deep connection to the gods and could hear whispers of their will or see glimpses into the future.
Once the council's first members were chosen, Star Roweth stepped down as the sole leader of the church. To this date, she has been the only church member to be both a Star and an Oracle.
Granted Divine Powers
Stars, as with most of the upper levels of the clergy, are gifted with the ability to heal. They are the only members of the church with the ability to bring someone back from the brink of death on their own, and a few particularly gifted individuals can even resurrect those who died before their time. Despite the obvious utility of this ability, however, they can only use it in a limited capacity, and will not use it to revive soldiers who have fallen in battle due to the church's separation from the military.
Additionally, they are able to grant divine blessings to warriors and future monarchs, as well as raising leylines temporarily closer to the surface for mage use. The latter ability is considered one of their most useful by those outside the church. The Mystwalkers, for instance, will often bring a Star along on particularly high profile raids in order to give their mages an advantage. There is also a Star whose primary duty is maintaining the leyline under Kiniswell so that the magic school may continue to operate without issue.
