Khaz Grin
In 101, construction of a second hold in the Greyhammer Peaks began. Unlike Khaz Rendlea, Khaz Grin was not a mine, it was a fortress. One of the grandest ever constructed, so imposing and impossibly large that it dwarfed other fortress cities such as Navi Ren, Draugen, Castille Vincious and Farhammer. The mountain was chosen specifically for defense, as it was a sheer slope that would be not climbable by anyone but the most expert of climbers. The mountain contained more black granite than surrounding peaks for hundreds of miles, and was impossible to reach except by The Bearded Pass, a deep canyon laden with other smaller fortresses of grand construction. The halls were dug deep, and entire castles were fortified and constructed within the deep vaulting mountain halls. No one dared assault such a fortress, and to this day, military experts would agree that no army on Mythris could ever breach the gates. The line of Grudgebeard controlled Khaz Grin as well as Khaz Rendlea.
The construction finished in 503 after just over 400 years of tireless building. In 615, when the halls of Khaz Rendlea erupted with lava, the remaining few thousand Dwarves that survived moved to Khaz Grin to take up home. King Threngrim, was distraught about the death of his people and his ancestral home, this made the Forgemaster begin down a very angry path. Little would he know, things were about to get much worse. Rumors appeared in 616, that the dragon Daralathyxl, the Sixth King of the Mountains, was damning the ashes of Khaz Rendlea, and possibly, Khaz Grin was next. King Threngrim immediately began preparations for the possibility of the red dragon and his brood to attack the fortress. He was right to assume this, for Daralathyxl did indeed appear in the south of the fortress. As twilight took hold over the mountains in 618, the dragons attacked the impregnable fortress hold. From the ground, Khaz Grin was impenetrable, but nothing could stop a destructive force such as Daralathyxl. The Dwarves and King Threngrim held out for six days before the remaining Dwarves fled out through the lower chambers onto the north side of the mountain.
Daralathyxl, the Sixth King of the Mountains took Khaz Grin as his prize, stealing anything he could get his claws on. He liked the fortress so much that he decided to keep it for his brood, and left his daughter, Ieiltamath in charge of keeping it. Threngrim and his remaining soldiers scattered to the wind, and only rumors about them are whispered. It is said that Threngrim and his Dwarves swore great grudges and oaths, to slay the dragons and take back their home of Khaz Grin. To this day, hushed rumors still exist, that somehow Threngrim and his Dwarves still live, which would make them over a thousand years old.
