Temple of Herne
The Temple of Herne is the official religious organization dedicated to the Herne, the Son of Autumn within the Weald. In addition to a theological focus on the Son, the temple specializes in missions that nurture competition and the natural world particularly in organizing athletic competitions, preserving wilderness sanctuaries, and working with the scholars from the Temple of Dainu to further the understanding of ecological systems. His clergy support menageries, animal hospitals, wilderness preserves, sports training, and athletic competitions.
Critically for the Weald, the Temple of Herne also regulates primal magics - those that use the energy produced by living creatures and mediated their spirits. Although the forest magics had a rich history in the Weald before the temple system, the Temple of Herne consolidated and published the theological underpinings of the forest magics and worked for generations to create a more effective training, mentoring, and monitoring program for those that use primal magics - banner carriers, shamans, druids, spirit warriors, and wardens. It resulted in an advance in knowledge that allowed the Wealdings to forge the Great Covenant that so defines the Weald today.
