Greystone is a small barony carved out of lands immediately south of the Mist Mountains. It's total population is less than 3,000 humans and 200 to 300 wood elves in the Boris Woods. Most of the humans live in Greystone Keep. The castle and the small community it supports have a population of 1200, most of them soldiers. There are two other towns of note, Owl's Roost, a foresting hamlet of 500 to 600 people, and Anastasia's Crescent, a village of 1,000 located where the Whitestone River merges with the Taris River.
This newly created barony has had a long and unlucky history. The Mist Mountains and the lands around it are suspected to be the location of Lost Sollo, an ancient kingdom of high magic that disappeared mysteriously more than 3,000 years ago.
It was settled again 1,000 years ago and was known as White Stone Barony. However, it fell to ruin after it's lord murdered his brother over a woman and was transformed into a death knight as a result. His castle, White Stone, also fell under a curse, it's stones blackened and it's denizens became undead. Settlers refused to live anywhere within a day's ride of the cursed castle.
Recently, however, a band of adventurers cleared out the Black Rock, killing the undead within it and lifting the curse. When the curse was lifted the stones lightened, although they did not return to the pure white color of 1,000 years ago. The stones were grey and the castle is now known as Greystone Keep. The adventurers decided to make the castle their headquarters. The paladin of their group, Ash, applied for and was granted to title of the land. He was named Baron of Greystone, after the castle he and his friends had restored.
