Humans

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humans are a bipedal humanoid species, with the standard set of head, torso, two arms with 5 fingered hands and 2 legs with five toes.

Genetics and Reproduction

Humans reproduce through sexual intercourse with a placental gestation period of nine month before a child is born.

Growth Rate & Stages

Humans grow for the first 20-30 years of their life, developing sexual maturity around the age of 16. After that, it is downhill from there. At around 50 years of age, females lose their ability to reproduce, it is around this age that humans are considering elderly.

Ecology and Habitats

Humans tend to adapt their environment to their liking. Resource-driven when choosing a habitat.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Humans an omnivorous species, eating pretty much anything. They farm, hunt, and fish for their food in many different ways.

Biological Cycle

Humans live to an average maximum of 60 years if they are not killed through unfortunate accidents, disease, or war. They don't change biologically during the seasons much, with the exception of tanning during a sunny summer if they are outside and not covered up.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Over time, man has developed a social hierarchy and various caste systems across their domain, heavily influenced by the male sex.

Facial characteristics

Male humans are capable of growing facial hair, while nothing compared to a Dwarvish beard, is part of mans genetic resistance to the cold.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The vast majority of Mankind now live on the Dasian Continent, originally having migrated from far and wide. In the Mythic Age, there had been Men in Draedurond and parts of Kharzenfaal, but now their presence in these lands are almost extinct.
Since the First Era, man has been growing in population within Midas and Ledas, where the human populations are the highest.

Average Intelligence

Mankind as a whole is considered to be a race with Below Average Intelligence, given the knowledge possessed by that of the Elves or the Dwarves, for example.
That being said, the average intelligence of humans in singularity is greatly dependant on their class, upbringing, and geographical distribution - effecting how well they are educated, if to be taught from home or to be sent to an academy for tutelage.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Most humans are told that the body has five senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Humans keep cattle, sheep, pigs, and other farmyard animals as a food resource. They've also befriended cats and dogs for various purposes, including hunting and gathering.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Names are derived from the local language and/or dialect. Some humans like to take names from other cultures to give their children to make them sound more astute.

Beauty Ideals

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Human beauty is often idealised roles - strong, muscular males, and females suitable for childbirth.
While culture is heavily dominated by those of the male sex, there are certain parts of the Empire which carry women and men equally in terms of idealistic beauty.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

There is a language often referred to as "Common," which bridges the races of Kene. Humans have dialects unique to their geographical distribution, such languages follow more traditional routes, while most are overlooked in place of Common, a language which many know and is easy to distinguish.

Common Dress Code

The race of men tend to dress in clothes suiting to the weather, layers of clothing added or removed depending on the temperature. The level of detail in the fabrics they wear, as well as the colour and material, represent the level of class or coinage that the person carries.
In battle, humans tend to wear armour of varying material, usually designed to cover their soft, easy-to-cut skin. Armour varying via purpose and intent.

History

Humans first appeared on Kene prior to the Mythic Era, originally a mixture of freed and slave races to the Dragons who ruled over the mortal plane. Eventually the majority mankind migrated freely to the Dasian Continent where some of their kin were already living.
Man believes that they control their own destiny. While it is speculated that the race of men was created to overthrow the dragons and reclaim Kene for the rightful owners of the plane, the Gods; man has since set out to fulfil that destiny, writing themselves into history. Despite their short lifespan, man can prevail with a strong will of procreation, ensuring generations after ones death that there will still be the race of men to stand in the shade of the trees once planted.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Human society is particular with interspecies relationships. If a human were to court an Elf, that would be perfectly fine; a Dwarf, Gnome, or Halfling would be seen as a bit more uncommon, but not completely frowned upon.
Any beast or animal race, however, is viewed unquestionably as a taboo - resulting in public shunning, shaming, or in some societies: being ran out of town or worse.

Mans skin is very plain, the colour of their skin relating to where they originally migrated from on Kene. Southern migrants tend to have darker skin than that of those which came from the north. Beyond this feature, also present in other races, man bears no remarkable traits.
