Irewom

Irewom was the original language of the Keyrit-Welokyi. It shares similar consonants with its successor Wokaiya, most notably the "v" and "r" consonants. According to certain scholars and ancient diagrams, the vowels in Irewom were very emphatic and a workout for the tongue. Other scholars believe that the diagrams were explicitly used for teaching, and that the day-to-day pronunciations were nowhere close to that exaggerated. Regardless, Wokaiya is more lax in its vowels.

The Werai brought with their language infusions the fixed-mouth feature, providing consonants that require only the tongue and the back of the mouth. By contrast, Irewom has a myriad of plosives and labio-dentals. Perhaps as a matter of status, the more complicated of these sounds were often the most incorporated into what the Irewans considered to be the most eloquent. This may also have led to Irewom's transfer into Wokaiya, as the alternatives on the language market only required brief substitutions for identical meanings.

Irewom is a dead language; it was originally the mere stuff of hypothesis by scholars across Wouraiya. While the T'kakou and Keyrit-Welokyi used Werai sounds, their sentence structure and vocabulary varied heavily enough to warrant the theoretical existence of Irewom. When archeologists found ancient writings and artwork buried under tons of volcanic ash, they found elements of the Wokaiyan writing system mixed with vocal diagrams of the various elements included in each sound. This "miracle of linguistics," as educated society would call it, would spark a renaissance of research and archeology on Irewa Island.

Irewom began a resurgence among certain aspects of the populace. They had been so used to fixed-mouth phonemes that the ability to speak in plosives was almost an unnatural power, and a curious sensation. It is speculated that the reintroduction of Irewom saved Wokaiya-speaking Wouraiyans from developing locked jaws.
