Caia the Just (KYE-ah)

A powerful deity, outside of the realm of the Lords and Ladies, yet not quite a God in the traditional sense. It is believed that she is a god in potentia - and it is through gathering more followers that she will grow in power, and assume the throne of godhood.   Caia is the focus of a monotheistic religion determined to prove her truth and convert others to her cause. She speaks to her followers primarily through her priests and priestesses, but has been said to speak directly to supplicants on occasion.   Her symbol is of a human woman, dressed in flowing robes, with her head bowed and arms outstretched, as if making herself an offering. This is meant to represent the most famous myth of the religion:   A thief was set to be executed, but in his final words, he begged for Caia's grace. She saw true remorse and repentance in his heart, and she appeared at the gibbet and offered to be executed in his place. She said, "Let justice yet be done, but this man be granted his life." The executioner and crowd were awed and moved at this, and fell silent. Caia laid herself on the chopping block, her ginger hair falling to trail on the ground. The executioner swung his axe, and the blade buried itself deep into the wood of the block. Caia, however, was unharmed, and stood up and offered an embrace to the executioner, who was moved to tears. The crowd gathered to give the thief forgiveness and succor.   See also: Caians
