The Neverending Mire
The Neverending Mire is an overgrown, jungle-esque swampland that spans miles and miles of the continent of Wyrmwuld. This hostile terrain is also intensely magical, frequently seeming sentient. No one but the denizens of the swamp and the suicidally foolhardy dare enter its thickets.
Near the north of the Mire is one of Wyrmwuld's major Archtrees , Yldrion, Archtree. It is protected by the dryadae in the Mire, as well as the Fenwalkers, and Demeter, the Swamp Hag.
Geography
Spanning roughly 300 miles from east to west, the Neverending Mire is a region of heavily unforgiving terrain. It is home to numerous different wetland biomes, from deep-watered mangrove forests to squelchy marshes to ancient, consuming bogs. Acting as a canopy for the sparser areas is an ever-present fog, which has been observed specifically changing in response to being viewed, and is generally considered to be magical. As such, little ground detail is viewable even from above.
The only visible landmarks above this oppressive fog are the numerous karst spires and precipices, dressed in clinging trees and vines, and - almost indistinguishable from them - the spires of what appears to be a massive stone temple, not far from the towering Yldrion, Archtree.
Ecosystem
Little is known about the ecosystem of this mysterious and inhospitable area. However, it is believed to be held in balance by the swamp's steward, Demeter, the Swamp Hag. The other known component is the Fenwalkers - Noma who are accepted by the swamp and permitted to move and live within it freely.
Localized Phenomena
The Neverending Mire experiences a rainy season during Sorrow's End and Joy, during which flooding is very common and the mists grow even thicker.
Tourism
There is no tourism in the Mire, as that would be a deadly proposition. However, visitors to the area often convene in The City of Fenmouth to meet with the Noma, engage in trade, and learn more about the swamp and Demeter.
