The Aranea

The term Aranea does not refer to any specific technology or organization, but instead refers to the many different methods and organizations which handle communications in Estalia.
Communications are almost entirely through written letters which are delivered by many different organizations. Within the city itself, there are 3 major groups; the Loquentium, who deliver messages within The Sedile, the Libera Major, who deliver messages between various government groups within the city, and the Littera, who are a collection of private companies used to deliver messages by private citizens and companies. Each Estalian province typically has its own version of the Libera for governmental communications - known as the Libera Minor - as well as a collection of their own Litterae.
Communications sent by governmental agencies need to be extensively documented, and those sent from within the city of Estalia typically first pass through The Oris. Communications from outside the city are documented at various collection points, and these records are eventually transported to the Oris for filing. Transportation of a collection points records typically occured once a month. These deliveries are typically heavily guarded by members of The Silver Legion, despite the lack of incentives for a bandit to raid them.
With the invention of the Kinetic Engine, many different methods of transporting communications have been incorporated to the Aranea. Traditional long-distance methods such as carts pulled by horses or large ships have been slowly replaced with automotives and airships, while shorter distance methods such as hand-delivery are replaced with drones and pneumatic systems. Communication has never been easier both within cities and across the country.
