Thorin Empire
The Thorin Empire is the largest empire known to Xelia. It is run by Emporer Virkain Thorin, aka Sun Summoner, and one of The Timeless. The Thorin Empire is known for its diversity, trade, military, and most importantly its sun crystals. The sun crystals are used to make warding lanterns to keep the horrors away. These sun crystals make the empire one of the safest places to live in the world. The empire also allows adventure guilds to hire people to take on the more dangerous jobs that The Timeless can no longer take due to them running their own respective nations. These high-paying guilds attract many adventurers in hopes of becoming rich, being known as a hero like one of The Timeless, or sometimes both.
History
The Thorin Empire was founded by Virkain Thorin in 1290 AC, about 90 years after The Great Cleansing. Virkain Thorin spent those 90 years helping the remaining Immortals build up and make their homelands more inhabitable since the kingdoms that make up the empire were better off than the rest of the world. Once when Virkain came back, he realized how corrupted the kingdoms had become. They would leave the commoners to fend for themselves and often took what little they had. Some of the kings would worship evil gods just to keep their power and status. Once when Virkain saw what was happening, he knew he had to lead the people to a better future.
He went back to his home kingdom, which was run by his sister Queen Cassandra Thorin on King's Isle, and convinced the queen to join him and liberate the people of those corrupt kingdoms. The first kingdom that they started with was The Oshirie Kingdom. They started by rallying the commoners to their cause and fighting the Oshirie's red guard. Both Queen Cassandra and Virkain would ride into battle with their army and boost morale. Queen Cassandra was just as fierce as her brother in battle, but with none of the divine power. It is speculated that if she had the same divine gifts as her brother, she could've been twice as powerful as him. This unfortunately couldn't have been tested or known due to her sacrificing herself for Virkain in the final battle of Oshirie.
Virkain had been surrounded by the golden knights of King Oshirie, after battling his way through a five-hour siege. Exhausted, Virkain battled his way through the horde of golden knights, taking out as many as he can before getting overwhelmed. It was then that Queen Cassandra found her brother on his knees about to be stabbed down on by a knight. She ran in front of him taking the sword through the chest and having the blade slice Virkain from the left side of his face to his ear. Even with a sword through the chest, it didn't stop the queen at that moment. She and her brother finished off the rest of the golden knights and had her strike fear into the hearts of those remaining to watch the queen strike down the best of their army with a sword through her chest. The queen later died of her injuries after the battle had ended and a statue was later made in her honor.
This then left Virkain alone making him king and the start of his empire. Emperor Virkain slowly took each kingdom that is now a part of The Thorin Empire taking him about 30 years. After realizing he needed someone to govern each kingdom because he couldn't govern all of them himself, he put the original families back in power. This was since they knew the area better than anyone he could have put in charge plus people were already familiar with the families. To avoid any revolts from the royal families or any assassination attempts on the families, Emporer Virkain put in The Wardens of The Empire. These wardens are highly skilled soldiers that are completely loyal to the Emporer and have the same amount of power as the royal families. The wardens keep the royal families in check so that they don't abuse their power, but also protect the families from any threat.
After these last couple thousand years, the emperor has been able to build the empire up into one of the safest places in the world. Making it one of the most populated nations with tons of diversity.
