Jonnasz van Elmander, Arch Mage of Evocation
Jonnasz van Elmander was the archmage of the school of evocation at the University of Eversted. He was well known as the less scholastic type and more interested in adventures especially in his youth. He only joined the University after first being trained in the martial arts. Looking for the more practical uses he quickly got interested in the school of evocation. Besides becoming a master mage he also was very involved in the Realm's military matters, often assisting Lord Protector Lothar van Brugge.
I. Goblinoid Invasion of 435 YoU:
In 436 YoU, after reports from the easter front against reached the captial by Xaiver van Axxen, Jonnasz wanted to investigate the situation by himself. He convinced archmage Porcia van Bulderbach to come join him to uncover the whereabouts of her former student Lorasz Denerbek. The young mage was serving at the court of Lord Kjonstantin and he kept reporting a stable situation in the Far Lands even as Xaiver's first hand experience made it clear that the Realm was losing ground and Lorasz had been missing for almost a year contrary to his monthly magiclly sent reports.
With the help of archmage Yrdessa, Jonnasz and Porcia were teleported to Hundswacht were they joined the Lord Kjonstantin helping to plan the next steps of his campaign as well as investigating the disappearance of Porcia's student. While the archmage of the school of divination lead her inspection, Jonnasz joined the military leadership. Realizing the dire situation of the Far Lands and especially of the town of Laangstep he requested ships to be sent down the Laange river to be able to support or evactuate the town.
Once the ships arrived Jonnasz volunteered to join the re-enforcements for the besieged town. Leading a force of volunteers from the previously failed land campaign as well as some newly joined warbands he sailed to Laangstep. For the following several months he fought side by side with lord Krahl van Morinth and his remaining forces to hold of the hobgoblin army, while civilians were evacuated. This attempts though quickly stopped once the hobgoblins recognized the life line that was established through the ships. Using their superior numbers they overwhelmed fortifications on the south-western and north-eastern part of the bay, enabling them to target incoming ships and effectively cutting off the vital support for the town's defenders.
Only in 437 YoU with the arrival of Bran Sparkhammer a succesful attempt was made to retake the forts and evacuate the city. Until then Jonnasz was key to keep communication with the Realm and protecting the town by aiding them his powerful spells.
Once the two fortifications were secured a new attempt was made to evacuate the civilians, but a fleet of Reavers blocked the harbour. They offered to make sure no civilian was killed by the hobgoblin army but they demanded the souls of everyone they would protect as well as all cultists they suspected to be aiding the cities defense. Krahl refused to accept this offer on Bran's advice and so a plan was made to breach the blockade with the archmage leading the first ship against the reavers.
While the ships were filled with civilians soldiers were trying to maintain the town's defenses as hobgoblins and Qharnate cultists and demons ravaged through the streets. Once the ships were ready it was Jonnasz's ship to lead a wedge formation towards the blockade. Firing two powerfull fireballs against two of the ships, burning their sails to prevent them from following the Realm's fleet he initiated the breakthrough and as the ships passed the reavers' line he additionally summoned a blizzard to prevent those closest enemy ships to follow them.
The escape proved to be successful even though many soldiers died in the streets of Laangstep to cover the retreat and several ships didn't manage to disengage in time and were captured by the pirates. Still a high number of civilians were saved and reached Hundswacht.
Since his return from the front Jonnasz kept arguing that the Far Lands need more support and he joined those warning about demonic appearances.
