Reavers

Structure

The Reavers are organised in raiding bands lead by ship captains. They all answer to their selected leader.

Culture

The Reavers seem to have traces of their Elkani roots, but those have been lost over time. While they speak Elkani it deviated from the mainland to some degree. Their culture also shows no interest in elven culture and in many ways it reminds more of older Morskani traditions.

On top of these historic roots a newer movement has been spreading, tied to some lesser understood religious teaching. These have profoundly changed the culture, though for those on the outside it might not be even noticiable.

Public Agenda

For most of the time people saw Reavers just as wild raiding pirates, but in the last few years something has changed. They seem to appear in specific regions and brutally attack, burning whole villages down leaving no survivors.

History

Its not clear when the Reaper's Islands were settled, but based on the Elkani spoken by the Reavers it must have been within the last roughly 500 years. The main source of settlers were people either hunted for their believes or tired of the wars of the mainland. Yet settling this harsh land had an effect on the people, who were barely able to sustain themselves.

The people soon realised that to provide for themselves they would need to gather resources from other places. Relying on their sailing skills and desparation they started raiding the coasts in the north and east of the Realm of the Middle, especially the area around Hundsted was a frequently hit target. But even more often they sailed up Mother's Grace pillaging the settlements close to the river - these campaigns only slowed down as the Realm build a fortress at Reaperwacht.

Something though seems to have changed. Through the last decades the nature of the raids switched from attacks to gain supplies to the annihilation of whole settlements. A religious fevor has spread among the people on the island, lead by women calling themselves hags and old sages. The new leader that rised out of this is known as Aygar the Red. Its unclear where his battlename 'Demon Slayer' has come from, but he has the unquestionable loyality of his people who would follow him into the Abyss.
