A group of battle mages that excel at utilizing lightning spells, their first grand master was a mage of some repute who despite mastering the limits of lightning magic sought greater power. seeking out a pocket of particularly unstable mana, he found that although empowered, he could not reach the heights he sought. In anger he lashed out with a lightning bolt, igniting the mana, and causing a chain reaction. Though he nearly perished, the mage was able to stumble out before he was completely consumed by the ensuing lightning filled cavern. There he was found by a passing patrol and brought back to his home city.
Upon waking he found that he understood the true unfathomable depth of electricity. Thereafter, his spells were a bright vibrant purple, a trait he passed down to his students after they graduation ceremony. A ceremony where they would be ritualisticly electrocuted by their master until they became almost completely immune to its effects. Though death is possible it is not as common as you may think as most who have not reached the level of true mastery required to survive usually drop out the day before, taking on the title of a second classer, a still respected mantle, though one not nearly as respected as those who survive their graduation.
In time their school would be folded into the military, and their traditions mixed with the martial practices common of the dwarven rank and file. Over the millennia the true history of their battalion would become mythologized or forgotten, though most agree that the broad strokes of the story are true. The biggest mystery is their founder, and what ever happened to them.
Some still seek out the The Eversturm in hopes of reaching the levels of their mythical founder though that is a rare pilgrimedge as the Eversturm is always in motion.
