Gero

Its really something. taking the train through the deadlands and seeing Gero crest over the shattered llandscape. Among the shattered mountains and deep gashes roiling with raw Corpus it stands. On the bank of the largest river of corpus on the planet. Setting foot into these lands should instantly overwhelm any living thing not wearing an environment suit, yet the city is home to hundreds. The secret to success here is that the entire city is a repurposed Arcology from the third age. In simple terms the folks in the third age wanted a place they could preserve the natural ecosystem of the deadlands. See back in those days the deadlands werent nearly as big as they are today. There were all sorts of plants animals and all other manner of things living in these parts and the third age people knew they would all be lost if steps werent taken. So they built we now know as Gero as a climate controlled corpus shielded haven for the local wildlife. That wildlife is still there today though most of the arcology had broken down by the time it was rediscovered. In the sections sterilized by the deadlands energy the workers of Gero make their livelihoods and homes. The arcologies dead sections have been repurposed into the largest Bluut refinery on Yarth, in fact Gero is where almost all of Yarth's bluut is refined from the river of raw Corpus. It is hard and incredibly dangerous work. The Arcologies climate control systems are able to maintain a clean atmosphere free of corpus but as most of the systems are beyond the understanding of even the best scientists constant patches must be made. Gero is full of the sounds of drills sledghammers and similar work as the systems are tirelessly maintained to "keep from the dark from coming" as the workers say. But a word of warning to any would be tourists this is a place of buisness the people here have little time for those not buying. not to mention the skyhigh rate of Whitik's among the workers!

Demographics

Unchanged humans are quite rare living within the city but not unheard of. Usually loved ones of Whitiks brave enough to take the risk. Most of Gero is inhabited by Whitiks. Their natural resilience to both bluut and Corpus make the conditions very livable and the lack of persecution is appreciated as well. There are ofcourse also the survivors of the original animal and plant populations in the functioning parts of the Arcology.

Government

Gero is run as an operation (which it is) led by the Foreman Latac  "The way I see it my workers work because they dont have anywhere else to go. You dont gotta worry about any riffraff or lazybones. Because if you don't get up and work this lovely little arcology collapses completely and we all die. This is their greatest safe haven, and we all made sacrifices to get here. I know my boys and girls down there will work and keep each other out of trouble, we don't have a choice." Quote from Foreman Latac.

Defences

Gero's Arcology is completely enclosed a grand roof stretches nearly a mile into the sky, in this manner the entire settlement is walled off. The first thing attackers may experience are the corrupting energies of The Deadlands themselves. Rivers of liquid Corpus, soul storms, rouge Whitiks. Managing to survive getting to the walls wont save you either as the city is full of hungry Whitiks just waiting for a chance at fresh meat.

Industry & Trade

Life in Gero is hardwork, but honest work. The life support systems need constant maintence, power generation must stay in the green, actual Bluut production needs to be carried out safely, operations need to be expanded. Those with technical knowhow will shine particularly bright here in Gero.

Infrastructure

Much of the functioning Arcology space has been gently converted to grow crops and livestock without damaging its original mission of preservation. It's no secret some of the largest crop yields on Yarth come from here all thanks to its carefully curated preservation systems and dutiful maintenance. In some areas of the arcology elevators, trains, temperature control are all commonplace. In other areas the interior could be mistaken for a slum. Those who wish for better mliving conditions are expected to work to make their portion of the Arcology functional again.

Assets

Gero's large crop yields can't be traded as it takes alot to feed the eternally hungry, but for all Gero lacks it has one ace up its sleeve. Gero is the largest producer of bluut on Yarth and the only place capable of making enough to power Icarus as such Icarus spares no expense getting Gero anything it cant make on its own.

History

After the derelict Icarus  was found adrift in the skies of Yarth by the first Topsiders the race was on to find a way to power it. It was of course a band of Whitiks who had been banished that came across Gero's ruins first. with a small population of only 40 they managed to stabilize the Arcology and get the train to Limbo working. From there more workers arrived and bluut production came underway.

Tourism

The only tourists who come are either mad or desperate to research the unique animals held in the greenzones of the Arcology. Not many people want to visit a city of roughnecks who might have a slip of self control.
