Mikjal the escaped slave of the Fire Giants

Town of Kilwald

Mikjal Ravenclaw is a former slave of the Fire Giants from the city of Stowgarth. He escaped with his horizon walker ranger skills and went on to have a bloody but successful adventuring career. Now in retirement, he's a pacifist who founded a ranger school. His prized pupil is Lukas, who he shares this information with:
  • The small village of Bournegowt doesn't appear on any map but houses ancient magic in a foul cave that no explorer has returned from.
  • The Barking Angels have heard word of ancient magic present in the village of Mawrwyke.
  • Rage the black dragonborn oathbreaker has been spotted traveling in the direction of the ancient Xendrik temple to uncover magical secrets left behind by the Titans of old.
Mikjal informs Lukas that his final training before he can tear down the puppet master of the Ministry of Magic will be to slay the remaining descendants of the ancient Titans. About 46 miles south of Kilwald the land becomes Giant Country. You'll need to journey through the Valley of Titans and the Valley of Faces before arriving at a mountain with a fortress carved into its side. The Fire Giants of this fortress have enslaved the humanoids of the city of Stowgarth for as long as anyone can remember. It is in this fortress you will be tested to your horizon's limits and claim a great treasure hoard. A few things to know about the Fire Giants who currently reside in the Titanic Fortress:
  • Giants belong to a caste structure called the ordning. Based on social class and highly organized, the ordning assigns a social rank to each giant. By understanding its place in the ordning, a giant knows which other giants are inferior or superior to it, since no two giants are equal. Each of the giant races analyzes a different combination of skills or qualities to determine the ordning. Giants make excelling in these qualities the purpose of their lives.
  • At the highest level of the ordning, the races of the giants are also ranked according to status. Storm giants are the highest in the ordning, followed by cloud giants, fire giants, frost giants, stone giants, hill giants, and finally giant kin such as fomorians, ettins, and ogres.
  • Regardless of a giant's rank among its own race, the chief of a hill giant tribe is inferior to the most common of stone giants. The lowest ranked giant of any type is superior to the highest ranked giant of an inferior type. It isn't considered evil to disrespect or even betray a giant of another type, merely rude.
  • Fire giants enslave other creatures to accomplish unskilled labor, so the giants can concentrate on the more vital aspects of foundry operation and crafting. Most creatures that Fire Giants capture are put to work in the giants' mines or on surface farms the giants claim as part of their domain.

"During my bloody past that led me to now live a life of pacifism, I was hired to assassinate a red-haired court councilor with backwards palms. I ultimately failed but learned that the councilor is immune to nonmagical attacks and can't be affected or detected by spells of 6th level or lower unless he wishes to be. After this, other rival ranger schools have sworn fealty to the councilor and his Ministry of Magic in exchange for a prolonged pseudo-life."
