Airship Racing

The lives of Pirates are not easy in the slightest. You have plundering and looting, running airships, the very real possibility of being abducted. Pirates built special settlements such as Setreata, designed to be neutral grounds for pirates, where looting is banned, so pirates can feel safe in the proximity of the town. To pass time, pirates have created a fun sport known as airship racing, in which pirate participants must fly through various rings placed precariously around the settlements they are in, and to win they must circle the island, and make it back on land at the start point.

History

Airship racing was formed not long after the construction of Setreata, the capital city for pirate neutral grounds. Airship racing was proposed by a few pirates to a group they formed, as no current legal forces actually exist for pirates. They got together to construct the rings that they placed all over the islands, and made the starting and finishing point with seating areas and airship docking stations.   The fatal flaw of the design was that the current airship designs were not suitable for high speed flying and darting through small gaps. A new airship design was created, and the shipsmiths of Setreata were hired to construct a special racing airships, which were much smaller, faster, and more agile.   The first test of the airships occurred in the year 519, 6 people with the newly designed airships completed the race, and they had so much fun they tried to tell as many people about it as they could. Soon enough, airship racing became an extremely popular activity, and airship racing stations and games were set up in every neutral zone settlement worldwide.

Execution

Airship racing is a simple sport to grasp. You'll need a specialised racing airship, which is available for rent or for purchase at shops near the airship racing start and finish line. 6 people get in their airships as they wait for someone to shoot a spark gun in the air, signalling the start of the race. The pirates must fly directly through the many rings that are placed floating throughout the island, which shift in placement to deter cheating and make it consistently fair, as seasoned players will have an advantage.   The first pirate to make it to the end line is the winner. The winner's name is put into a draw, and at the end of each year a winner is pulled. The winner wins half of all the earnings the race made in the entire year, from the entry fees.

Components and tools

Racing airships are a specially designed airships that have a more aerodynamic build, they can fly much faster, turn faster, and are smaller to help fit in the rings better. These airships can be purchased at a shipsmith shop, place an order and the shipsmith can create you a custom racing airship to your liking. Racing airships often get battered and broken as they are driven into each other to try and stop others from winning.   Spark guns are a specially designed gun that ignited thalassium, creating a spark of electricity that is shot out and makes a loud snap sound. This spark gun is fired at the start of airship races to initiate the race.

Participants

Airship racing is a popular sport for most, if not all pirates. It gives a chance for pirates to make friends and have a fun competition instead of a competition that involves fighting and death.

That sounds fun! Though is there ever any cheating? Any accident or death? Since they are pirates, I imagine they are some ruthless and cutthroat individuals among them...

Without a doubt some deaths have occurred, I'll have to write about that too. I suppose since pirates are ruthless that there isn't cheating because what we would call cheating is allowed :D Glad you like the sound of airship racing!
