Bear biters are a type of menacing, fashionable clothing worn by the rich of Temperil. The height of fashion is to slaughter a roller bear, skin it, and drape it over oneself as a sign of strength and power. In historical times, bear biters were much more prevalent. Nowadays faux coats have replaced the vast majority of bear biters, with only a few authentic ones in circulation.

The very richest temperilians would sew the heads of these bears to their own necks, with the giant skull and upper jaw of these animals functioning more as a hat. The skin and fur of these bears would also be sewn through one's skin, representing their loyalty to their high status. These expensive procedures were unreversible; once the coats were attached to their body, removing it became impossible, and one's body would remain horrifically mutilated. Thankfully, this practice is no longer seen.
