Sparkling Slimes
History
The modification first started appearing around two thousand years ago. By injecting oneself with crystallised sand, their inner parts would glow and shimmer in sunlight, and glow in the dark. When people first started sparkling it was considered bold, which quickly devolved into shaming those who made the choice.
For a thousand years sparkling slimes were left to fend for themselves in the harsh world, many homeless and many living in terrible conditions on the outskirts of towns and cities, where little funding is given.
In the last thousand years, since around the year 0, did general views on sparkling slimes changed. The general consensus was that slimes have the right to do what they want with themselves, and that others shouldn't judge them. Nowadays, some even look up to sparkling slimes for having the bravery to stand out so much.
Associations
Historical Associations
Since the practice was first popularised several thousand years ago, sparkling slimes have been associated with rebellious natures and criminality. Sparkling slimes violated societal norms and these slimes stuck out like a sore thumb. Those who chose to have these modifications were shunned, most of the time kicked out of families and houses, forced to find homing in slums.
Getting these modifications would have risked your job and any relationships you had. Only those who had no family or were unemployed would get this modification.
Modern Associations
In modern times, sparkling slimes are either seen neutrally or positively. Any negative views on these people have long died, and sparkling slimes have been accepted into society with open arms. The change has led to more people getting the modification, both for themselves and to make the statement that it is okay to be yourself and do what you want.
Your writing is light and fun, and it really fits with the theme and feel of your world! The article itself looks very nice, so it's a pleasure to read just because of that. And the small artwork of the slime brings it all together! I really like the way of creating an ethnicity/culture/group by cosmetic means, which feel uncommon even though it exists here in real life. Nice work!
Thank you so much!! <3 I am so glad you enjoy my style of writing, it's something I'm finally beginning to establish ^^
