Wood Elves
Overview: Wood Elves, also known as the Elves of the Forest, are a subrace of elves deeply attuned to nature and the wilderness. Known for their agility, keen senses, and connection to the natural world, Wood Elves are often reclusive, preferring to live in harmony with the forests and woods that they call home. They are a proud and ancient people who value freedom, community, and the preservation of the natural balance.
Physical Appearance: Wood Elves typically have tan or brown skin, often weathered by their time spent outdoors. Their hair ranges from light browns to deep greens, sometimes resembling the hues of the trees and plants that surround them. Their eyes are often shades of green or hazel, giving them sharp vision in both day and night.
Culture and Society: Wood Elves live in tightly knit communities within dense forests, where they blend seamlessly into their environment. They build their homes high in the trees or within natural structures, living in tune with the rhythms of the forest. Wood Elf culture emphasizes survival, self-sufficiency, and respect for the natural world. They revere deities of nature, particularly those associated with forests, animals, and the elements.
Their society is often led by elders or councils of druids and rangers, who guide the tribe in decisions that protect the land and their people. Wood Elves tend to avoid large cities and other races unless necessary, though they are not hostile, merely private and protective of their lands.
Traits and Abilities:
- Fleet of Foot: Wood Elves are faster than most other races, with a base walking speed of 35 feet. This makes them excellent scouts and hunters.
- Mask of the Wild: They can attempt to hide even when only lightly obscured by natural phenomena, such as foliage or heavy rain.
- Keen Senses: Like other elves, Wood Elves have proficiency in Perception, making them highly observant and difficult to surprise.
- Elf Weapon Training: They are proficient with the longsword, shortsword, shortbow, and longbow, allowing them to master the tools of the hunt and defense of their homes.
- Personality: Wood Elves are known for their calm and measured demeanor. They rarely show outward displays of emotion, preferring to remain in control of themselves and their environment. They can be seen as distant or aloof, especially by more urbanized or excitable races. However, they are deeply loyal to their families and tribes, and they fight fiercely to protect their homes and kin. While they are often pacifistic in nature, they will not hesitate to use their skills to maintain the balance of the natural world.
- Wood Elves who venture beyond the forest often do so with a deep sense of purpose. Some may be driven by a desire to protect their homeland from outside threats, while others may be curious about the world beyond the trees. Wood Elf adventurers often excel as rangers, druids, or monks, channeling their connection to nature into their skills. While they may struggle with urban environments, they can adapt quickly and often become invaluable allies in wilderness exploration and tracking.
