Thule and Bringul

The legend goes that one Mid-Winter, when King Rakmuir, the god of the Pantheon of Tuath , was on the eve of battle. As he made his battle plans, he couldn't decide whether to crush his enemies or show them mercy. He toiled over this thought for so long that he finally decided that the two options were a distraction and were interfering with judgement. Thus, King Rakmuir pulled his most merciful and merciless characteristics from his mind, so that he might think clearer.   The most merciful part of King Rakmuir took the shape of Bringul, the jolly gift giver who spreads joy and cheer every Mid-Winter, showing mercy to the unfortunate or downtrodden.   The most merciless part of King Rakmuir took the shape of Thule, a demoic entity who punished any who did not follow the tenants of King Rakmuir.
