Urstin Farlawn
King Urstin Farlawn (a.k.a. The Savior of Oster, The Torch Bearer)
Urstin Farlawn was the king of the Osterian Empire from 1573 (when he was crowned following the death of his father by plague) to 1589 when he was assassinated by the Ramuk the "so-called" paladin of Gwendalin.
Urstin was well respected among the Osterian people, as most agree that it was his actions that saved the Osterian people from the plague that threatened to destroy them all. Going against his father's commands, Urstin and his most trusted ally, Gearhardt Halfstout, sailed into unfamiliar waters to find refuge for their people. Their journey brought them to the shores of Yorn where Gearhardt remained on the new continent and began building relationships with the native people, while Urstin returned to inform his people.
King Ezonial imprisoned his son when he returned from his journey, and vowed that he would make an example of him. However, news of Urstin's discovery soon spread to members Royal Council who quickly overturned the King's decision to punish Urstin and began to make preparations to evacuate Oster.
As the last ships of the unafflicted were being prepared to sail to Yorn,King Ezonial was claimed by the plague, leaving Oster vulnerable and without leadership. As Urstin sailed across the Silent Sea with what was left of his people, he was crowned King of Oster by the Royal Council. When Urstin sat foot on Yorn, he decreed that their new home would be called New Oster and that it would be the first of many new lands under the dominion of the Osterian Empire.
It would be this decree and the creation of the Osterian Empire that would drive a wedge between Urstin and his most trusted ally, Gearhardt Halfstout, and ultimately lead to the Gearhardt Rebellion.
