Aether

Aether (EY-ther) is a type of energy from the Astral Plane used in enacting the process called Magic. There are many theories in how Aether is able to manifest matter and other types of energy, but the Weave Theory is widely accepted by arcane scholars.

ARTISTIC INTERPRETATION OF AETHER

Manifestation

The Aether is unseen through normal sight, and instead requires Astral Perception. The spell Detect Magic is a lesser version of this Astral Perception. Much like in the Astral Plane, magic forms visual traces in the form of auras which come in varied forms and colors based on who and how it was used. Aether does not last long in any other plane other than the Astral Sea as it eventually returns to it. For example, a cleric dispelling a light spell would leave a bright white aura, that eventually dissipates into wisps of the same color.
A more accessible way to perceive Aether is through sensation, a sixth sense of sorts. Practitioners of the arcane arts are able to feel if there are traces of Aether withinin their vicinity. This feeling manifests in different ways such as goosebumps, hotspots/coldspots, or tingling vibrations felt on a specific part of your body. This sense is heightened when one becomes more attuned to the manipulation of aether,.
