WorldEmber 2023: Prep
For my first WorldEmber, I'm aiming for 10,000 words about the ecosystems of Fokuhai. Yuruida is the homeworld of the Saikkot species, and the continent Fokuhai is the origin of their most wellknown culture. Overall, I'm currently prioritizing content that takes place somewhere around their bronze and iron ages.
Though I'm sure the notifications will be overwhelming, I'm excited to see what everyone pushes out. Happy World Ember y'all!
Week 1: Focus
I'll be writing articles on the regions of Fokuhai, and the ecosystems within. Most of this information will be usable in other time periods as it focuses on the environment rather than people or technology.
Regions
I'll make a more attractive article for Fokuhai, in which I split it into regions and go more in-depth on the biomes within. Each region will be named using Yurui. I started revamping it recently, but I'll have to finish it before December.
Flora
Expect a few articles on plants. I'm not as interested in them as with other topics, but alas, everything needs a starting point. Yuruida flora is mostly purple and magenta, so it's easier to make up "exotic" alien designs.
Fauna
I enjoy creating creatures over anything else—except maybe characters—so most articles will be different species. I'll be trying to fill in the basics needed in a food web for each region before touching on other roles. Although fish are pretty important to saikkots, I might avoid touching anything aquatic for now. I don't know much about sealife compared to land-living animals, and I want to make the concepts much nicer than what I can do now.
Week 2: Mini-Meta
Scope
Fokuhai is a tad bit larger than Europe, but isn't connected to another continent. Its northern end runs through the equator like Africa, and is somewhat ovular with elongation southwards.
Scene
The heat dominates Fokuhai. All regions are incredibly hot, though the perimeter and south are most tolerable due to higher humidity than the elevated Shifting Dunes. Only the mountain tops and neighboring taiga strip are cold, especially Baiyur̃ag's Roost.
Inspiration
Yuruida's fauna are dominated by reptilian megafauna, so I'll be looking heavily at depictions of dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals in addition to modern reptiles and birds. For flora, I'll probably skip art for now and describe appearance more generally so I can go in-depth at my own pace another time.
Recently I've gotten into a game called Rain World, which has a very complex ecosystem. As frustrating as it is to experience a food web from the bottom, it's undeniably beautiful. I'm sure some aspects will leak into my work.
Week 3: Homepage Review
I'm happy with my homepage for now. I want to expand it eventually, but I need more category articles before I can make it all pretty and page-sized. I also need to stop procrastinating and learn CSS,,,
Week 4: Last Minute Prep
Everything's planned! I've got my spreadsheet (thanks Han ^^) with a goal of one article per day, every day except on the 31st.
Yaaaay, someone else who loves writing species!! Hope you have an epic WorldEmber :D
