Hurley's Distillery
Hurley's Distillery in Dawnlight is a landmark you just can't miss. The latest expansion of the business brought a huge distillery apparatus with it. A large tower-like structure protects it from the cold winds that come howling over the Northern Reaches in the winter months and bite everyone and everything with frozen teeth.
Founded by Ol' Hurley, a close friend of Irim who decided that the cold winters needed booze readily available, the tradition has been carried on by his family, who in his honor all took on Hurley as their last name. They were the first to actually adopt a last name in Dawnlight, and until today most have not deemed it necessary to pick one themselves.
Hurley's Skotch (HuSK)
Their most coveted spirit is Hurley's Skotch, made from the barley that grows richly in the area of Dawnlight. Ol' Hurley experimented a lot with all kinds of herbs and grains and in the end settled on a mix of different barleys, one growing in spring and one during the summer. The proportion of summer and winter grains are kept a family secret, as well as the mixture that gets added during the distilling to add the distinct flavor. When the time comes to prepare the mixture, only the inner circle of the family is allowed into the brewing room where they cook up the stuff and leave it in huge barrels behind locked doors. Only the inner family circle is allowed to handle the barrels and add the mixture. Any accidents that affect the taste of HuSk are exclusively shipped to the Seat,, where it gets marketed as HuSky Selection and sold for prime prices to the upper classes. The Hurley Family makes sure to guard the barrels well, to both ensure that the nobles feels like they're getting their worth, as well as preventing the more simple people from getting a bad impression of HuSk. Ol' Hurley and Vertiglobuli, who came up with that idea together, agreed that it would be easy to fool the nobles, but the simple folks would not hold back if their spirit was lacking.Alterations
The Distillery started out like the other houses in Dawnlight, but the ever-increasing demand for their product caused the Hurley family to expand the production several times, with the building growing to accomodate the production equipment. By now it looks like a seemingly random amalgamation of cubes and boxes, and that's pretty close to how it evolved. Some parts of the building are a nightmare to navigate, while others have wide open rooms with pillars and beams weaving in complex patterns through the space and around equipment in their quest to support the whole structure.
