House of Rafiq
The House of Rafiq began in the mid-2970s with a Nehemeni human man named Rafiq. He was a wealthy man, having inherited control of several valuable mines on the edges of the grasslands to the west of Khasahn. After decades of insinuating himself financially into most organizations in the city that held power of any kind, nobody really noticed the difference when he crowned himself King of Khasahn.
When King Rafiq died in the 2990s, his oldest son assumed the mantle of King Rasheed bin Rafiq, and began the process of asserting control over Baqubair. In 3039, King Abdur bin Rasheed bin Rafiq installed his son Hamoud as Prince of Zabiqia, bringing all three major cities of western Nehemen under the control of the House of Rafiq, making their self-styled Kingdom of Khasahn Rhyduania's largest single political entity short of the Karthin Cities.
Thus far, the rule of the House of Rafiq has been largely self-serving, but not especially tyrannical, leaving the day-to-day lives of most inhabitants largely unchanged compared to the recent past, if not somewhat improved by the dynasty's penchant for self-aggrandizing public works projects, like aqueducts, sewers and libraries. However, sources of fresh water are growing scarce, and the ability of the Kingdom to provide for its citizens comes further into question every day.
