Morbelgion

An archmage that was imprisoned for hundreds of years deep beneath the earth. Now that he is free once more, he plots to reinstate the arcane rule of old.

Morbelgion was the star-pupil of Diviath, the greatest Archmage of his time. Ambitious and skilled, Morbelgion quickly rose through the ranks of the Hvatna Skyn.

The Buried Enclave

Some 100-odd years before the calendar of Vecna, Morbelgion joined the The Buried Enclave in wake of the arcane death. In search of better tidings than the surface world's apparent fate, the enclave settled the city of Tul Inuth.   Diviath assigned Morbelgion research work; the manipulation of the flesh itself was to be his domain. Perhaps through the art of transmutation, which at this point had long been mastered to bend and alter metal compositions, could the arcane death be overcome. In years to come, Diviath grew more absent as a leader, leaving a void behind that was easily filled by Morbelgion. Eager to assist his mentor, Morbelgion offered time and time again to aid in the experiments that had pervaded the obsessed master's mind. But Diviath kept all of his students far removed from his time-altering experiments, Morbelgion in particular.

The shackles of time

As time went on, the last grew weary. News from the surface never came, a certain death was looming above, and new generations were born into assumed captivity. All while their leaders' experiments failed. Morbelgion held the city together in this uneasy tension. But what started as a steadfast hand of guidance, quickly developed into an oppressive regime as the newer generations grew more rebellious. Disparate in this chaos, the leaders of the enclave resorted to eleventh-hour attempts to save Tul Inuth. Diviath's experiment came to a close. But what was intended to put the city in a protective bubble of condensed time, instead shackled the city in deadlock half an hour before its demise.   For hundreds of years, the The Buried Enclave was imprisoned by Diviath's failed experiment. This time bubble was relived over and over again by its creator Diviath, who inevitably lost his mind. Morbelgion, along with all denizens of Tul Inuth, was released from their prison by the daring adventuring group Rael, Shynt, Maze, Emilio Cortez, and Nathaniel Richfield Jr..

The retribution

On the eve of their release, the last planned a rebellion against their leaders. But while the city was freed of its imprisonment, the revolt failed to take hold of Morbelgion's clock tower, the base of operations for the wizards of Tul Inuth. In retaliation to their rebellion Morbelgion made an example of the attackers. Pinned on metal rods, hanging 40 feet high, all would-be overthrowers were displayed all around the city. This instilled the population with fear of further punishment, restoring order to the city.   Unleashed in a different time, faced with a world unknown to them, the wizards of Tul Inuth knew one thing with absolute certainty: they had been abandoned, left to fend for themselves. Not only had the gods of old left them in the wake of the arcane death, but the surface world also left their rulers, their superiors, for hundreds of years. And now, all those years later, the surface world was beholden to new gods, new flavors of the same lies. Now, unleashed in the current day Kingdom of Valdorin, Morbelgion leads the last to their supposed righteous dominion.   First, devotees to would-be gods were slain. Stalked by winged monstrosities known only as the Harvesters, the inhabitants of Respit's Quarry and Temris vanished overnight. Some say they were abducted, others suspect this was the doing of the Free Men. Only one group of adventurers know the poor inhabitants were slain and transformed into gold by the winged harvesters.   Now, Morbelgion is continuing his next steps in his grab for power. His last known location is the city of Tul Inuth.
