Azrok Mountains

The coastal mountain range in south-eastern Myrthul, and the marker for the start of the Kingdom of Halholm, the Azrok Mountains hold some of the largest jewel mines in the world, including the famous Greedfall Mine. It is also believed to be a part of a larger mountain range that researchers have named the Great Myrthul Range.

Geography

Located along the south-eastern coast of Myrthul and stretching about 1000 miles, the mountains are mostly jagged peaks with moderately low valleys that have been washed from thousands of years of river-erosion. The dirt in the mountains is extremley rocky, providing little for farmlands, especially as elevation increases. Its northern tip gradually forms into the low cliffs east of Tempest Valley, while the south stays mountainous and high elevation up to the water.   The tallest mountain in the range is Akaar Peak, which stands around 12,000 feet tall. Akaar Peak's western face receives a moderate amount of snowfall each winter, and, during the summer, spawns the main tributary to Lake Balrock, which feeds the Balrock river through the rest of Southern Myrthul.   While it is very cold in the Azroks, it receives a surprisingly low amount of snow, only around 20 to 30 inches a year. A strong prevailing wind pushes from south to north across the mountains and any precipitation that falls usually lands in the very southern region.

Fauna & Flora

Its rough soil grows limited vegetation, but the Azroks do grow some coniferous trees and many types of berry bushes, including blackberry and raspberry.

Natural Resources

The Azroks have a plethora of jewel deposits, assuming one is willing to dig for them. Sapphires are particularly abundant, and provide a large portion of Halholm's income. Other than jewels, the Azroks also hold gold veins, particularly in the inland face of the northern coastal mountains, however, these mountains haven't yet been thoroughly explored.   The mountains are also home to some notorious wildlife such as the Azrok Bear which is known for the dark blue hint at the base of its white fur.
