Ereneden

How would I know Ereneden, Rosa? I've never learned it.
You don't need to. The Magi who were being born towards the end of our civilization were born with the language fully known; it was a new twist in our evolution. Corinus was one of the first, so his ability would be passed on to his children. Also, the words that Terran tongues are able to replicate have bled into Atheē, so really – everyone in Athering knows a little Ereneden.
Talking to you is like reading an encyclopedia, Ghia said dryly, and was rewarded by a genuine laugh from her mentor.
— from Bellica, book 1 in The Bellica Trilogy
Ereneden is the dead language of the Magi, the original inhabitants of the world of Zarqon. Spoken only by Magea Rosa and her Magi-Terran relatives now, it lives on in snatches of phrases and words in the modern Zarqonian Terran language of Atheē.   Because of the psychic nature of the Magi species, Ereneden words were allowed to get incredibly long. When spoken psychically between Magi, things are understood at an implicit level and the length of the words doesn't affect understanding. So the Magi tended to add words together to create new ones.   A good example of this is the word sariayanedhuanbeyra, or hate. The Magi did not have a conception of hate until the Suen came to Zarqon. Then, they needed to create a word for the new emotion that ruined their people.   The word is a combination of two words (sariayaned and huanbeyra) which are, in turn, combinations of smaller words. Sariayaned is love, literally translated as "heart's song". Huanbeyra is death, literally "absence of the breath of the divine". (The word for life is huanaipri, "breath of the divine".) Beyra is its own word, translated as void or vacuum. Huan is the word for the Divine (often called The Six, as the Magi had a conception of six main forces making up the power of the divine). Saria is the word for fire, one of the six forces that is connected with the heart, and yaned is a compound word of yan and ned, your + words. (The second n is elided.)   So the word for hate is "death (absence of the breath of god) of love (song of the heart)".   Another quirk of the language is reversals. Magi, beings created by the blending of thought and nature, were fond of symmetry. Whenever possible, they liked to flip words backwards to create the opposite meaning.   Another example from post-Suen Magi culture: war and peace. Peace, having been what the Magi experienced before the Suen, had never had a word before then, and war certainly had not either. So the words were created at the same time, and the Magi were able to indulge themselves in some symmetry. Thus, the word for peace is horusk, and the word for war is ksuroh.

Writing System

The Ereneden alphabet system was a glyphic one, only learnable by Magi or part-Magi, as they require Magi powers to translate. However, its use fell out of favour as the millennia wore on, with new Magi learning how to read the glyphs, but not create them. By the time Terrans came to Zarqon, it was preserved in the Schools but not in common use among the people.

Syntax

Even though verbs do conjugate, pronouns are included in the sentence, after the verb – this is the most polite and formal way of speaking. Less polite or formal ways will not include the pronoun. Sariayanedo Ey demro v. sariayanedo demro.   Nouns have no cases—things are figured out from context.   Words like erefredin, which translates literally into “our world”, do not use the word for “our”, which is seym – this is because ere in this context means not only magi but us, and is how the Magi refer to themselves. Magin replaces ere when a non-Magi is speaking Ereneden.

Vocabulary

Magi were endlessly inventive. If a word in their language did not exist for something, they created it. After millennia of existence, the vocabulary of Ereneden became quite extensive, and cannot possibly be replicated here. As a humble historian of Magi culture I will do what I can.

Dictionary

4 Words.
Common Phrases
sariayanedo Ey demro
I love thee
Common Unisex Names
Magi names were unique. A magi might take an already extant word as a name (as in the case of Magea Rosa, whose Ereneden name is Rsarn, a type of flower), but after that, no other Magi would have that name.
