The Progenitor Wars

The Progenitor Wars marked the end of The Precursor Times when every citizen of Zelidin, from the smallest creature to even the might greater deities had to choose a side. The conflict was between the up-to-now kings of the world, Giants, and the more recently created Dragons over who should be considered the leaders of Zelidin. Gods took sides, mortals took sides, some tried to play both sides for personal gain and others simply wanted to watch chaos reign. In the end though the war was arduous and was fought for nearly a century before being ended by the catastrophe that was the First Dracorage.   Most importantly perhaps to look at in this war is the role the Greater Deities themselves took. The gods had built the world ages before this and had intimate knowledge of its stability. If they came down and fought directly the world would be destroyed. Their direct interference was not allowed, but they could support their followers and give gifts to them to fight with. The greatest of these gifts were the 14 Vestiges of the Progenitor Wars. Each greater deity that had interest in the war's outcome created a powerful artifact that represented their powers and gave it to their most loyal followers. Some were wielded by giants, dragons, mortals and even lesser deities or titans. While some took form on Zelidin and participated through non-combative means none were involved in direct fighting during the Progenitor Wars. Their direct fighting would happen later, during The War of the Wyrms. The results of the war are explained further here, but the results and where each greater deity ended up after is described in Splitting of the Pantheon of Gods.
