Splitting of the Pantheon of Gods

For millennia leading up to and even at the beginning of The Progenitor Wars the gods were aware of each other, working with each other to create new beings and enjoying the new world they were building. While some did not agree with the others and would avoid them there had not yet been any direct conflict between the gods on Zelidin. However, when The Progenitor Wars erupted between the dragons and giants all had to choose a stance. The greater deities were forced to side with either the siblings: Ondamas, God of Metallic Dragons. and Donsam, God of Chromatic Dragons and support the Dragons for control of the world or Handel, God of Perseverance and his Pantheon of Giants.     Those that sided with the gods of Dragons who would be led by Ondamas and Donsam: Those that sided with the gods of Giants who would be led by Handel: In addition to the above gods, there was a trio of gods that decided to instead support neither side and worked towards sabotaging the entire war. Three of the gods were already gone from the material world and were managing their own planes that needed overseeing:
  • Biros, God of War had already left to maintain The Nine Hells
  • Ghagyn, God of Death had already left to maintain Fugue
  • Tuthos, God of Love had also already left to live in The Fey Wild.
As the war was nearing its end and the giants were looking to lose the trio of deviant gods set their plan into motion to cause a catastrophe for all sides. They had been in contact with four of the dragon progenitor lesser deities and been seeding their minds with doubts about how they were actually going to win the war. the deviant gods told the dragon progenitors that a Rectavagance was coming soon and if they combined their efforts they could capture the power the Portal of Chaos in the Trelp Mountains to channel into all dragons and give them the boost they needed to end the war for good. They believed these whispers and caused the First Dracorage. The tragedy that resulted was enough to end The Progenitor Wars but it was also the beginning of The War of the Wyrms.   But before describing how The War of the Wyrms begins, the repercussions The Progenitor Wars should be explained. The stunning victory of the dragons due to the destruction wrought by the dracorage was enough for the losing gods to concede and accept defeat.
  • Handel, God of Perseverance was banished from the material plane, sent to the Planar Elemental Ring where has ruled to this day. In addition to Handel, each of the lesser giant progenitor gods of The Caminus were sent to the Elemental Planes as well where they live still in varying states of recluse.
  • Anir, Goddess of Knowledge had taken her personal abode, The Resting Shelves, to Fugue with permission from Ghagyn, God of Death and agreed to stay there. Her heralds are permitted to continue to move throughout the land but she is banished from appearing within the material plane as well.
  • Mydros, Goddess of Sorcery had actually been working with one of her most powerful heralds, Orona the Seeker, to develop a new type of dragon: Gemstone Dragons. In the end of the war she agreed to stay within the confines of the demi-plane she and Orona had been working within. She agreed to this but in truth she has actually been travelling amongst the material plane in disguise. None are able to detect her masterful disguises save Ulin, God of Trickery and Biros, God of War who for various reasons both agree to keep quiet.
  • Tuthos, God of Love retreated into The Fey Wild after the progenitor war and has lived there as the travelling king ever since.
  • Ulin, God of Trickery is in a similar state as Mydros, Goddess of Sorcery. Neither of them wanted to abandon the material plane yet, but they did not need to spend all of their time there to begin with. Ulin was the only god to have detected some of the tricks of the nefarious trio and he began his work to develop the Mythos of Trickery and Balance and still puts effort into that to this day.
The victorious gods were content with their victory for less than a day before they began a discussion of whether the method of winning was worth the cost. They had desecrated nearly two-thirds of the entire surface of the world. The gods supporting Donsam and Ondamas began to turn to them with questions and from there they went to the dragon progenitor gods who ousted the nefarious trio. At this point both Ondamas and Donsam made a decision: Ondamas was vehemently against the method of victory while Donsam believed that any price was worth it. The gods split once again in a new war, The War of the Wyrms.   On the side who support Ondamas, God of Metallic Dragons. and wanted to punish the nefarious trio were:   Meanwhile, the nefarious trio stood up to take a stand with Donsam, God of Chromatic Dragons in support of their methods and believed with a bit more they could gain true control of the world: In addition to this, Markeyhe, Goddess of Creativity decided that she could not decide which side was right and simply stood back and let them fight.   As the war is outlined in the attached document the gods were all weakened significantly but in the end Ondamas, God of Metallic Dragons. and Donsam, God of Chromatic Dragons both lost their material forms and were forced to spend centuries recovering in their own homes. The nefarious trio defeated and sealed away.
  • Rolund, God of Misfortune was banished to The Abyss where he would be forced to stay eternally although he would continue to attempt to influence the material plane.
  • Earis, Goddess of Loss was sealed within the demiplane created by Ondamas where he developed his technologies in the wars: Crest Holm. Her seal is watched over by Ondamas, God of Metallic Dragons. still although he lacks the power to re-seal her if she escapes. Her influence is limited to within Crest Holm and would have continued to be sealed eternally had the moon elves of Hanine Banose not entered the domain through strange occurrences and begun to weaken these seals.
  • Iaos, God of Pain was taken to Mount Celestia and sealed on the highest layer and Nythis tasked her heralds with watching over him. She would eventually return to continue her vigilance when Iaos was able to corrupt even the heralds of Nythis into attacking the Star Islands.
Of the remaining gods that existed on the material plane they believed they would need to work to keep the world in order:
  • Ezona, Goddess of Protection believed that with the addition of Rolund to the forces of the Abyss that Biros would need help so she went to him and joined him in defending against the demonic onslaught and took over the first layer of the Nine Hells.
  • Markeyhe, Goddess of Creativity had been overwhelmed by the chaos and destruction caused by the wars she had just gone through and retreated to Mechanus where she took over as the leader there.
  • Kesris, Goddess of Light sought a way to repair the world in some way and spread herself out so thin that her consciousness grew weak and she eventually encompassed the world. All see her as a mother and healer of sorts but her ability to give aid to the mortal races has grown weak and only gains some power when pulled forward by the powers of the other gods to react.
