10. The Noble’s Execution
During the morning of the execution, the party negotiated on prices in a store for their goods while Andraste searched for diamond dust in the back alley. A dwarf answered his call some time later and led him to a less than trustworthy operation. When Andraste decided to back away from the matter, the dwarf group ultimately let him, though not without putting him to sleep first and taking a sizeable portion of his gold. The party eventually found an unconscious Andraste propped up against a backstreet wall before they proceeded to the site of the Gerhart of Leitritter’s execution in the central district of Aldeville. With their invitations from the General, the party enters the gathering of nobles and other notable individuals under the guise of being representatives of the Duford family. The party spent the better part of an hour observing or interacting those present, gradually determining that there was something amiss amongst the Rysmarckian ranks.
At noon, the execution went underway. The Rysmarck family’s Chief Minister Raspert von Hegel delivered a declaration that instated the Leitritter’s heir as head of the House. The Chief Minister continued to extend clemency to other transgressors regarding the coup before Rainan, the Divine Emperor, interrupted the proceedings by personally executing Gerhart. With the man’s death, Rainan made his own proclamations and then subjected the area of notable individuals to a storm of fire. In other parts of the city, the Rysmarckian army sowed chaos of their own. The party managed to survive the fiery onslaught and then fought their way out of the courtyard, a few coming near death several times. Kent’s prior scouting provided them a clear path of escape, and they returned to the Bejeweled Muse.
After gathering their belongings in preparation to leave the city, Varris noted a presence and discovered a sprite named Seros hovering about her shoulder. Introducing himself as an underling of Firon, he delivered a message for them to meet at the College of Aldeville. The party traversed the city in a sprint and, though they caught the attention of some soldiers, safely reached the College. They convened with Firon, who provided some information about the recent happenings, but more importantly assigned them another task: to deliver the body of the corrupted thief to the Grand Arcaneum in Curieux. With the party’s acceptance of the task, they parted ways with the elf before being teleported to Vesium’s College of the Marble Bishop. The afternoon still open to them, the party looked to begin searching for Henry’s family or simply to rest from the day’s exertions.
"Even I will admit, it takes more than being a novice to survive the wrath of the Divine Emperor."
