20. A Romp in the Astral
The party settled on a plan to free Angramax from the crystal prison wherein the Grand Magister would accompany the weakened dragonborn into the Astral while the adventurers remained together. With the successful activation of the Antimagic Field scroll, the effort went underway. While Kent negated two of the crystalline pillars, both Andraste and Varris contributed to negating the remaining pillars. With their attempts a success, the surrounding demiplane began to collapse around them as the adventurers transitioned into the Astral Plane. Alexandre and Angramax were sent into the Astral Plane, followed by Kent and Varris--who maintained their hold on one another--while Jester and Andraste found themselves separated from the rest of the group.
Jester and Andraste both found themselves struck with paralysis in their first few minutes within the Astral before eventually getting a hold of themselves. They proceeded to wander through the plane, searching for their friends, and spotting multitudes of creatures along the way. However, their floating brought them into Githyanki territory where a squad of warriors first attempted to restrain and capture them before ultimately attacking. The duo succeeded in thwarting the attempt before they proceeded in the opposite direction. They later decided to take a rest, leaving a few hours to chance, while they floated along in the Astral. When they roused, Jester discovered that her sword, Gwenthel, had been removed from her person.
Meanwhile, Kent and Varris set out to find their compatriots, even stopping a passing deva for directions. They traveled throughout their perceived nighttime, during which they detected the presence of Gwenthel. However, pursuing the trail did not lead them back to Jester but to a travelling merchant instead, going by the name of Madame Marin. Kent ousted the merchant for possessing a stolen item, though Madame Marin did not seem pliable to returning the item without a price. With Gwenthel back in their possession, the two continued in their search for a silver pool for the better part of the next day. During their travel, they happened upon the Grand Magister being assaulted by a band of Githyanki. The group then proceeded to thwart off the attackers before at last having a moment of reprieve, though Kent briefly died.
Following a rest, Kent and Varris were reunited with Andraste and Jester once Alexandre’s magic had been restored. Together, the group at last returned to the material plane, reappearing in the Grand Magister’s office in the Arcaneum.
"They're just a bundle of fun surprises. Not everyone gets to traverse the Astral, you know! And not everyone survives the experience either!...Huh? Well, yeah. Sure, he did, but only a lil' bit."
