The Sticks
At the west of the northern banks of Ville Lyssonne, the sticks form the slums of the city.
For anyone in fine robes my advice would be steer clear of this area or be ready to defend yourself from the rough locals. Ruffians hang on every corner and small children steal anything that's not in the deepest of pockets.
Guilds and Factions
Most areas of the district are controlled by one of the Sticks' many violent gangs that control anything from the trafficking of 'spice' to the sale of cockles.
Architecture
The whole district is raised up on wooden stilts to avoid the ground below. The houses are typically wooden and basic, between one and two stories high, they are rickety and small, connecting by a few planks to the boardwalks that make up the thin roads that criss-cross there way, seemingly at random through the district.
One building that stands out from the rest is a large and relatively grande three story building known as Lady Melanine's Boudoir. This building appears to be a combination of lavish bar, illicit drug den and brothel, though I am told it may be wise for me to stay away, as it acts as the headquarters for a gang known as the Red Claw.
Geography
The Sticks sit over an estuary at the mouth of the river. For the most part this takes the form of deep thick mud and silt but when the river swells from heavy rainfall or from snowmelts in the springtime the whole area floods. In particularly bad floods, shoddily built houses at the western end of the Sticks can be washed out into the Bay of Lyssonne.
Recent Events -
8-11 899 TA - A massacre occurs at the Speaking Square. 22 confirmed dead, amongst them Vincenzo Altrez of the Altrez Fine Winery lineage, and Hugo Drew respected localman and community leader. Later that same night an attack on Lady Melanine's Boudoir leaves two members of the Red Claw dead and many more injured.
