Tormund Eswain
Duke of Ortensa, High Castellan of the Order of the Fozen Rose Tormund Eswain
The Duke of the Fifth Duchy of Lyssonne was the third son of the late Duchess. After the death of the Duke and eldest brother in 894 the title passed over the second brother who had become Grand Admiral in the church of Valkur making him ineligible. Tormund meanwhile had gained the title of High Castellan of the Order of the Fozen Rose a knightly order dedicated to ridding the North of the Orc menace.
The Duke's youth was largely forged by his military training, largely isolated from his two elder brothers who his mother was training in the etiquette of rulership.
He was known as a quiet, possibly lonely youth, growing up in the presence of the adventuring knights of the Frozen Rose. The knights are known for their long ventures into the wilds for months or years at a time to hunt the enemies of the land and the Duke spent most of his teenage years away from civilisation.
He became quite the accomplished lancer in his travels and his mightiest of deeds saw his party of only six knights heroically ride out from the villiage of La Sontelle against a band of thirty odd Orc raiders. When none returned but the villiage was not assaulted by orcs, a handful of villagers went to search the location of the battle to find a scene of dead orcs and knights. The only survivor was the young lord, pinned beneath a hulking black Orc. The Duke had run it through with a lance to the chest but it had not felled the beast, Tormund's horse had been cut from under him and in the ensuing melee had managed to get a knife through the eyes lot of the heavily armoured Orc. For his troubles the Duke had taken a blow to the chest that had crumpled his breastplate and shattered many ribs, worse was his right leg which the orc's heavy axe that had split through armoured grieves and bit down to the bone. The villagers had taken him back to their homes and sent for a local druid, some say a wood elf sorceress, others simply a wild hermit woman, either way his lordly life was kept from slipping away and his tale spread.
