Faelan

Fled underground to escape a natural disaster of world-ending porportions, those ansecstors who would become the modern Faelan races used magical aid to quickly adapt themselves to new circumstances. This resulted in a subspecies unnaturally stratified into physical types designed for different environments and work styles. While this stratification has eased somewhat in the past several centuries, due primarily to reunification with surface world species, the differences between are still noteable--particularly between civilizations.
However, there remain unifying factors. Overall, the Faelan are longer of ear, limb, and finger than their human cousins. They have better vision in dim lighting, stronger hearing, and are more likely to be naturally born mages. There is also a strong tendency to be lactose intolerant, and issues with skin related diseases, such as skin cancer, when exposed to sunlight over extended periods of time.
