Chapter 46: No Rest For the Wicked
General Summary
Date: 4th of Uktar to 8th of Uktar, 1491 DR
In the early morning light, the party found themselves in the warm embrace of the Tresendar Manor Inn's common room. As they planned for the journey ahead, Andrew came to wish them goodbye and offered each a stone he'd found on the riverbed. He gifted Nomime an early birthday present and a letter to their parents, that Nomime should give them once she'd found them. After the departure, Ranvas stayed to craft bullets while the rest headed out to Wave Echo Cave.
Once the trio arrived to the Forge of Spells, they unexpectedly met a familiar figure - Glasstaff, who was seemingly employed by the Zhentarim to study the Forge of Spells. He disclosed that the Forge of Spells was currently damaged and required "fuel" to enchant items. Glasstaff had been feeding it Charladyn crystals found in the cavern, but in order to restore the magical artifact, it would have to be re-linked with it's original source of power.
Glasstaff further unveiled that the Forge of Spells had twin counterparts in both the Shadowfell and the Feywild. These forges, existing in the same space, were interconnected and capable of amplifying each other's arcane power. Now the connection was broken, but Glasstaff believed it could be restored. Bene was suddenly keen on visiting Shadowfell, albeit not to locate the Forge's counterpart, but to seek something his mysterious patron asked him to.
Meanwhile Ranvas was ready with his bullets and was making his way towards the Wave Echo Cave. An unsettling incident unfolded as Carp and Andrew saw Ranvas along the way and made their way to greet him. As Andrew stepped on a puddle, something malevolent seized him and pulled him beneath the surface. Ranvas tried to save Andrew, but to no avail.
As Ranvas studied the puddle, a glossy black gemstone emerged. Ranvas thought Andrew was turned into this gem and as he brought Carp back to Alderleaf, he vowed to bring Andrew back. Eventually the mysterious fey appeared before Ranvas and accepted the stone. The revelation hit as Ranvas realized the hags had traded Andrew for the heartstone he asked from them in Ascore.
Once the party met, Nomime heard the breaking news. The Good Fellas were faced with a critical decision, one that would alter the course of their adventure. Despite the anticipated meeting with the Storm Giants, they made the bold choice to depart to the Shadowfell, their sights set on rescuing Andrew and confronting the treacherous hags. Was it madness or desperation that drove them to the realm of shadows? What horrors and challenges await them this Plane of Darkness and will their unwavering resolve help them survive it or will they perish along the way?
