Ange: The Beginning is The Beginning Report
General Summary
After her first few assignments with the International Energy Regulation Agency, Ange reports back to Level 37 for a briefing. Level 37 is always peculiar — the briefing is recorded both by digital assistant and by a ‘scribe’ dressed in robes writing on a scroll. She quickly provides her report, and the meeting is adjourned. Immediately afterward, Ange is teleported unceremoniously back to her assignment with the IERA at the FE Warren Air Force Base. The closest they can get her without detection is an alleyway in Old Town Fort Collins, forty or so miles south of Cheyenne. She begins to walk out of the alleyway but is approached by a man who inconspicuously reveals the sign of Level 37. “I am the founder of Operation Angel,” he says abruptly. “But my memories of it have been stolen from me by the scribes.” The man stares at Ange for a few moments. “I know your face. I know your face! But I cannot remember your name…” He grunts, angrily and takes a step backward. “Maybe you can help me?”, he asks sincerely.
After some questioning from Ange, the man explains, “My memories are in pieces. Everything in tatters. I remember the science. I remember the way ionized particles of the elements interacted with the N substance. But I cannot remember what is the “N” substance.” “I have dreams — nightmares, really — about drowning in sand. I’m in a tomb and the sand fills up around me until it fills my mouth…then I wake up.“ “I have dreams about people I think I’ve met before, but I can’t remember. You are sometimes in those dreams.” “There is something important about this city, I think. But I don’t know. I just can’t remember. I’ve been here before, haven’t I?” “My name is Dr. Tristan Lyons. I think I built the Angel program. Walk with me and maybe we can learn from each other?” Ange agrees to walk with him, hoping that he can help explain more about Operation Angel. Walking down the street, Dr. Lyons mutters “I remember this, I think.” But he is repeatedly discouraged because he can’t place the memories. After a few streets, there is audible screaming coming from a few blocks down. People are running toward Ange and Dr. Lyons…and away from something. “They are running away from the old bookstore,” Dr. Lyons says. “I think I’ve been there before.” Ange tells Dr. Lyons to hide and she heads toward the calamity. She comes above enormous spiders crawling all over the cars and cobblestone streets. And hordes of mice running in every direction. She springs into action quickly removing the air from the area around the spiders. She follows the same tactic with the rats. They fall to the ground before reaching her feet…thankfully. Once the way is clear, Ange goes back for Dr. Lyons and brings him into the old bookstore — from where the spiders and rats were coming. But upon entering, there is no commotion. There is no excitement. Only a few patrons and the shopkeep — who seems to know Dr. Lyons. “I didn’t think we’d ever see you again, Tristan. After what they did to you.” The shopkeep embraces Tristan — who doesn’t seem to remember the man’s name. He looks over to Ange — standing next to Tristan — and speaks quickly, “Forgive me, my name is Daland. I own this bookstore. Dr. Lyons and I go way back…” Then looking back to Dr. Lyons, he speaks quietly as patrons in the store look over curiously. “You shouldn’t be here, though. We could get in a lot of trouble if anyone finds out we’ve talked with you.” Dr. Lyons, Ange, and Daland have a quiet conversation — attempting to retrace his steps, his research, and his missions. Daland doesn’t know much about what Tristan was doing with Level 37, but he does have a list of the books he’d been reading/purchasing. Ange and Dr. Lyons review one book in particular entitled, “Tomb Secrets: Nephilim Burial Grounds”. They find dog-eared pages that contain the last known location of potential sites for where Nephilim were supposedly buried. Daland explains to them both that Nephilim are the Biblical name for creatures that were born of the union of Angels and women — “…the sons of God and the daughters of men…”, he says. For a moment, Dr. Lyons has clarity and he says, “The ‘N’ substance. Surely that refers to the Nephilim.” Dr. Lyons looks over to Daland. “My friend, if we are a close as I think we were, please…please help me get to Egypt, to the location of these burial grounds.” Astonishingly, Daland agrees to help. But he speaks ominously, “We can’t help you again, Tristan. I’ve already done too much. Just this once…and then never again.” “Thank you, my friend.” Tristan says to Daland with an embrace. Within minutes a car is at the bookstore. Ange and Dr. Lyons make their way to a private airport where a plane is waiting. They move from airport to airport, never passing through security. Finally, they arrive in Egypt and make their way to the burial grounds...small pyramids, some distance away from the typical tourist attractions. But upon their approach, Ange sees several vehicles with armed guards waiting outside. She recognizes the guards as Level 37 acolytes and convinces them to let her pass. They agree, reluctantly, but warn her that the Powered Sentry standing guard will not be so easily convinced. Dr. Lyons stays in the keep, but Ange moves forward, undeterred. From a distance, the Level 37 sentry agent notices Ange and targets her with a blinding flash. The bands of electrical energy wrap around her face, deafening and blinding her. She stumbles around, slowly making her way toward the powered-soldier. Eventually, she makes her way to him, but not before he blasts her with two energy bolts. But once again, Ange is UNPHASED. After a few seconds, Ange regains her sight and hearing and makes her way to the powered solider. The other Level 37 security guards come closer for a good luck. With a blaze of movement, Ange pummels into the powered solider — CRASH. The guards, now an entertained audience, hoop with laughter. In retaliation, the powered solider fires energy bands at Ange, but misses. She punches him hard, knocking him backward. The guards roar with approval. “Do you want to give up?” She asks. But the powered soldier isn’t willing, so she punches him again…this time into the pyramid and unconscious. The guards are clapping and hollering as Ange and Dr. Lyons make their way into the pyramid. The pyramids (or burial grounds as referred to by Dr. Lyons) are mysterious and smell like dust. Electrical cables run along the side of the stairs. Ange and Dr. Lyons move slowly down the corridors. Dr. Lyons warns, “Something feels off here. I sense danger, Ange. Be careful.” But they continue onward. Then, Ange hears guttural groaning from up ahead. Looking to her left, she sees a man in a protective suit lying on the ground. And above him, a MUMMY walking slowly toward her. Will Ange be able to defeat the Mummies?! Will Dr. Lyons remember what was important about the Nephilim? Find out next time.
