Homeward Bound Report
General Summary
The adventurers remained for an additional night in the Lizardfolk Lair to interrogate three of the prisoners. They spoke to the alcohol-addicted lizardfolk, Marik. He did not have much to add to their knowledge that Robespierre didn't already possess. They were unable to communicate with the Sahuagin captive in the water cell. Veilla attempted to interrogate and intimidate Drenna (the apprehended Cultist of Therizdun) but was apparently unsuccessful. They spoke again with Sauriv who asked them again to help the lizardfolk cause and enlist the aid of Saltmarsh. He also informed them a boat had been found on the shores a day east of the lair. The companions were given rooms in the shaman cloisters. They gathered together in a room where they took some time to learn a little bit more about Nooben and his history. The following morning, after receiving some trail rations and a sealed letter for the Saltmarsh Town Council, the party set out from Saltmarsh, mostly hugging the coastline of the Azure Sea. Nearing nightfall, Veilla and Korra were able to make out the silhouette in the distance of a grounded single-sail fishing boat on the rocks of the beach. As they approached, they were able to see that sea gulls and a vulture were flying in and out of the boat. Eventually, they were able to make out that the boat was named "Doolittle Fishing?" This confirmed for Veilla that this was the vessel where Deirdre Doolittle was killed by the sahuagin. They found a single male human hand and forearm tied with sail rigging hanging over the starboard side of the boat. After further inspection, they discovered that a hole had been broken through the starboard side of the hull. They entered and found the head and torso of Deirdre Doolittle. Veilla prayed that Deirdre be given rest and Deirdre made her aware that she had found peace and was moving on to the far realms. That night, Veilla encountered a raven standing on the hand tied to the boat, but no one else was able to confirm its presence. On Korra and Robespierre's watch, Korra saw sharks and heard the sounds of sahuagin far out in the sea. However, no further contact was made. The rest of the travel back to Saltmarsh was uneventful until they were only a couple of miles west of town. Korra noted how quiet the farms were that are located at the base of the low cliff rise where Saltmarsh sits. Korra inquired at the door of a farm and a small girl answered that a land shark was terrorizing the farms. Meriwether was able to find tracks of what they assumed was the bulette they had hunted a couple of weeks before. A half a mile up towards Saltmarsh, Meri determined that they were in the general vicinity of the bulette. At that moment, it emerged and attacked. The party took heavy casualties, but were overcoming the great white bulette, when a noise to the north erupted and a four foot tall baby bulette emerged.a and ran to its mother. It was quickly followed by its father who got into defensive position between the baby and the party. After some effort, the party was able to take both adults down and calm the baby to the point where they felt comfortable getting Kester the Tanner from town to come and help them find a permanent home (the Zoo of Iuz) for the baby. They arrived home and were just leaving the Faithful Quartermasters of Iuz, when a deep voice said, "Meriwether Clark, as I live and breathe..." The group turned to see Meri's uncle Hastings Clark who told them he was on a diplomatic mission on behalf of the Firbolg Steading and the King of Keoland, himself.
