GoS Session 11: Watchers in the Dark Report

General Summary

Swordsday 19th Lowsun 619     Last we left our heroes they had successfully decoded a cyphered letter found in Gellan Primewater's estate. They discovered that the message probably pertained to a smuggling operation, using a ship named the Masquerade. William decided to visit the dockmaster and make inquires of the boat. He cast a spell which allowed him to take the visage of Ned and headed to meet Maybell Cartwright.   Feigning to be there on the business of Gellan, William asked about the Masquerade and when it last had made port. Maybell informed him that it last made port about a year ago, and it hadn't carried wares for Gellan. The dockmaster started to get a little suspicious, and a quick-thinking William successfully charmed the spinster- buttering her up with the offer of a date.   William rejoined the rest of the group outside the Mariners Guildhall. As a way of distraction, Theseus has been street preaching- without too much success. His audience had consisted mainly of street urchins who were amused by the blue-skinned man and his magic tricks.   Hekate and Shiloh visited Winston , who had been acting as a fence for a variety of stolen goods. After introducing Hekate to the halfling, she was able to sell the jewellery from the Primewater Estate. Shiloh was also able to pick up a variety of items including a potion of climbing, two flasks of alchemist fire and a few smoke pouches.   The next stop for the group was to visit Eliander Fireborn at Hoolwatch Tower. He explained that the guard was still monitoring the coast for the reappearance of the smugglers. The new moon was drawing close, and he wanted the party prepared. Eliander also introduced the group, Toby and Guthrie, to the two guards who would be rowing the longboat used for boarding the smugglers' ship.   Deciding that they would be best waiting in the small cove below Baldurus Manner, the heroes finished what business they had in town before heading out. Willaim visited Keledek's Tower, only to find that the door and windows were missing. After carefully searching the entire tower, Willaim couldn't find an entrance. Instead, he resorted to writing a short note for Keledek and leaving it in the mortar of the building. The rest of the gang met Benjamin Baldurus III to ask if they could stay in his basement for a few days. The Gnome agreed, but on the provision that the party did not destroy anything.   The party set off via the longboat and arrived at the hidden cove in the early evening. They immediately set about exploring the tunnels and basement- finding it as they had left it, corpses and all. Enlisting the help of Guthrie and Toby, Theseus gathered up the bodies and gave them a burial at sea. Shiloh discovered a small grey-and-black polished stone with an arcane symbol engraved upon it. With Williams aid, this he found this to be Luckstone.   Saintsday 20th Lowsun 619 PR   Settling in for the night, the group set up a watch. During Shiloh's watch, they noticed three figures standing on the sea cliffs above the bay. William sent his familiar, Junior, to investigate. Climbing up the sea cliffs, the small squirrel discovered the identity of the figures- Sanbalet, and two hobgoblin mercenaries from Kathar. They stood gazing out to sea, a hooded lantern lying at their feet. As the sun came up, the trio turned around and headed back to their campsite.
