Session 27 & 28: Ythryn and a Leap Through Time

General Summary

The group stops by Krokorok on their way back to Termaline, where they discover a small group of goblins patroling around the goblin slave camp. Lydia magically messages one of the goblins, that looks like a small person in a goblin costume. To her surprise, she is messaged back by gnome that asks her for help. The group quickly defeats the two goblins accompanying him and learn the goblin they messaged, is named Spellix, a gnome researcher, who was caught up in goblin politics and was somehow elected leader of the camp. The players agree to escort Spellix back to Termaline and they rest for the night, while Riley and Jonesy ready the sled for the group to take the next day.   When they arrive in Termaline, Dzann, sits down for a drink to talk with the group about how they should proceed next. The group learns from Dzann, that their should be multiple items in the fallen city of Ythryn that should help them defeat Auril. As they are talking, they seem to be overheard and Dzann calls out to a stranger in the back of the room. The stranger, Damian Starshadow, is a dragonborn paladin looking for work in the North. Dzann offers him fifteen platinum and tells him there should be plenty of undead to kill. Damian agrees to join the group for the next leg of the journey. After the group makes introductions, they decide to rest for the night. During the middle of the night, the Frostmaiden cuts a hole in the window of the room Lydia, Char and Xin are staying. The room immediately begins to magically fill with snow and ice, causing the temperature to plunge and putting them in real danger of freezing to death. After a combined effort of Char and Armin, they are able to destroy the door, and finally escape the room. The group realizes after the encounter, that they need to defeat and kill the Frostmaiden, for good.   The next morning Riley and Jonesy reluctantly let the group take the dogsled to themselves, in hopes they dont get Riley and Jonesy killed on the long journey. The journey is nearly four days long, through blizzards and traversing around packs of wolves on the way. Dzann leads them to a place where he remembers his original self found a teleportation circle into the city of Ythryn. As Dzann transports the group into Ythryn, the group spots numerous enemies and magical entities that inhabit the city. The group decides to proceed with caution and stealthily walks through the city towards the spire at the center of the architecture. The find the tower in which the Ythryn Mythallar is contained and moments later they are happened upon by Iriolarthas, a demilich who inhabits the city. After a deadly battle, they defeat the demilich. The group discovers a Staff of Power and the Demilich's old tome of spells. Lydia takes time to attune to the staff and quickly skim through the tome for useful spells.   As the group and Dzann search the area, an obelisk is found. A black stone obelisk covered in runes from every school of magic. Dzann searches for any papers and books in the tower on the obelisk and discovers that the obelisk can be used to travel back in time. After discussing the matter with Lydia, a question is posed to the group.   Are they willing to travel back in time to save Biri from her untimely death at the hands of the Frostmaiden? To which the party and Damian Starshadow agree. After a few preparations and talks, Lydia with the assistance of Dzann, commands the obelisk with the Staff of Power to rewind time back two weeks, a few days before Biri is killed in Easthaven. The group makes quick work of the Demilich once again, pushing him into the Mythallar, which vaporizes him instantly. They all attune to the Mythallar and fight off a group of enemies that try to storm the spire. Afterwards the group focuses on making Ythryn break through it's icy prison and back into the sky. The group searches the city for any magical items they might be able to scavenge before they arrive in Easthaven.   Out of everyone, Armin, heads to the theater in Ythryn and finds a leatherbound book with scripts inside. Armin reads through the plays as he feels curses taking hold of him. Four different curses take hold of Armin during his time reading through the scripts, which are removed later by Damian. Yet, the mark of the curses left on his soul remains along with the darkness that took hold of him during his death in the Enborne Darks.
