Session 9 - The Investigation Begins

General Summary

The group, after two weeks of travel through the woodlands, finally reach the town of Greenroot. They are immediately recognised and welcomed by the guards, who escort them to the Realmshield headquarters. There, they meet the realmshield general Siveth Haevaul, who is thankful that the group came to assist in the investigation.   Siveth explains the gruesome details of each of the murders, and explains the identities of the three victims – Hestil Shanneir, the young blacksmith’s apprentice, Nosi Jani, a young girl, and Livari Rivergrain, a community-oriented mother of three.   They also learn of “Madman Jain”, an infamous resident living in a dilapidated house not far from the town, who is the prime suspect for the murders.   Siveth offers to have them stay in the barracks, but they politely refuse.   Following their debriefing, the group finds the Twisting Tree tavern to stay in. Panser gets to perform for an audience again, which is refreshing for him. Lake sleeps on the roof, and the Firbolg sleeps outside. Panser tries to socialise further with Flint, but finds him difficult to understand.   That night, while the group get drinks at a table, Panser uses his detect thoughts spell once more, finding a woman sitting in the corner, deep in sorrow. He learns that she is the mother of Nosi Jani, the murdered child.
