Session XVI: Death & Despair Report

General Summary

After fighting a deadly battle against a mind-warping monster, half of the party lies on the ground unconscious. Nabitaro rushed to her collapsed companion Kiber and healed her up. However, she awakened to a grim sight. The monster was bested in combat, but next to her laid her weeping father, Ralnor, holding the inert body of his other father, Hatharal. She ran to her father's side and tried to heal his father, but he was too far gone. In a fit of rage, Ralnor charged towards Malaveth, sword drawn. Nevertheless, Nabitaro swiftly stopped him before he ended Malaveth's life.

After patching all of their allies up, they discussed what just happened and accusations were thrown in all directions. Distraught by the loss of his husband, Ralnor asked her daughter what they might do. After thinking for a while, Kiber decided to bring Hatharal back to Kaltain's house and see what he could do.

Once at the house, they explained their predicament to Kaltain and he offered a wide variety of options. None of them however, satisfied the wants of Kiber and her dad. In the end, he told them that he could take care of Kiber's parents and take them back to Syrendille to where he would be headed soon. Kiber decided to trust him and they agreed to leave at dawn.

The party spent the night at Kiber's old house, surrounded by memories. In the morning, for Kiber's amazement, Danger had grown in size and his wings developed. While the little dragon was testing his flight abilities, Malaveth called Kiber over to talk. This talk opened a gap in the relationship the two had formed during their voyage. Meanwhile, Medan was suffering from the aftermath of the fight. While he rested, he saw himself before a tribunal. His actions were judged as treason against his knightly vow and when he awoke from this strange dream, he found a crack on his emblem.

After everyone was ready, they followed Kaltain into a room with a magic circle in it. He then transported the party to a familiar place, the royal castle's catacombs. The undead warlock vanished before they could ask him anything and the party made their way to the throne room.

Having met with the emperor and empress and relaied all of the information they possesed, they were given a day off and asked to return the day after to discuss a new mission. They left and headed to do their own thing. Kiber went to pay a visit to his companion, Iron, while the other's headed to the graveyard to talk some things out.
