Session 4: The First Sight Report
General Summary
Recap:
- After seizing the thief who attempted to steal from Sam, and handing him over to the guard, Lia got the attend of Tadrel and Erika, who were busy with the other festivities in the festival.
- As a group, the party decided to investigate the abandoned building, left by the thief's accomplice, and discovered an old and disheveled home with several notes scattered across a table; most of them ruined by spilled food.
- One note remained intact however, it being a notice to the recipient to keep an eye out for a group matching the description of the party, and referring to them as thieves who've stolen from "the master."
- As the party tried to work out who sent the letter, and what they could be referring to, shouting from outside the dilapidated building caught their attention, and they rushed outside.
- A guard, injured from recent combat, rushed to Father James, explaining that the docks of Westerbrook were currently under attack by merrow, who've almost entirely wiped out the guard detail station there, and were killing and taking passersby.
- Father James looked to the party for assistance, as they'd explained their rank as Knights of the Guidewind, and asked them to hold off the merrow at the dock, at least until he could gather up enough guards to repel them.
- When the party arrived at the dock, only a handful of merrow were left, with one of them impaling a guard, and dragging his corpse into the water.
- After an intense battle, the party managed to slay all the remaining merrow before they could cause more harm, and were approached by a civilian who was hiding in a nearby alley.
- The civilian introduced himself as Abbot Payne, a man who was on his way to the Festival of Faith when the merrow attacked. He explained that his daughter was with him, and she was taken by the merrow upstream to the north. He worries that she's already dead, but asks the party if they could at least return her corpse to him, so that he may properly bury her.
- The party accepts Abbot's request just as Father James arrives, followed by a large group of guards. Abbot warns the party that there's still plenty of merrow who'd taken corpses to the north, and Father James recommends that they implore the help of one of the festival's representatives to help them.
- Traveling back to the festival, the party finds that the festivities have died down a little, and begin asking around for who'd be willing to assist in their quest.
